Bookkeeping: When Small Problems Become Big Headaches

We've all done, haven't we? We've all tried to save a few dollars by doing the job ourselves. Then we sit back and pat ourselves on the back for completing a simple task, without realising the true cost of that DIY job.

Often you'll hear of people that ask their spouse, relative or friend to come in and help out with the bookkeeping. They don't want to let you down, so they fumble their way through and most often end up in a big mess. Maybe it's pride, or stubbornness, but so often we'll discover that the clients have spent hours and hours trying to resolve small bookkeeping issues, and finally come to us for help.

Not that we're bragging, its just that we do that kind of work every day, so we've been then able to fix up the job in minutes.

Having said that, you don't want to know about the three hours that we spent on a little plumbing issue that we had with a vanity basin in one of the bathrooms. Three hours, that wasn't including a trip to the local hardware store in search of a replacement part.

What seemed to be a simple five minute job just escalated out of all proportion, and finally, after trying everything, we came to the conclusion that it was time to call for a plumber.

It was a simple job that took him only a few minutes to fix!

So why we hadn't called the plumber first off, before the DIY attempt that took us three hours and hot us nowhere except more and more frustrated?

The answer is simple: You don't know what you don't know until you try to do something using what you do know (which may not be very much)

We see it so often with bookkeeping problems. If we'd been called to the rescue first off, before much more damage had occurred, our bookkeeping client would have saved themselves so much TIME and MONEY, and they'd also have used that time to work on areas of their business that they do know about.

Calling up a professional bookkeeper at the outset of trouble with your bookkeeping can also save us time, and therefore SAVE YOU EVEN MORE MONEY

Next time you have a problem with your bookkeeping, stop the small problems becoming larger headaches by calling on a professional bookkeeper, and use that time to work on your business.
