Description: Unisi is the leader of a five member group. She is 32 years old and married with three children who are between the ages of 11 and 15. All her children go to school. She doesn?t take care of any additional family members. She resides in a rented two-roomed house in which five people stay. They have electricity and piped water at home and the family gets three meals a day. She works in a semi-urban area on the outskirts of Kampala.
Unisi deals in second-hand shoes in Owino market, one of the busiest markets in Uganda. She works seven days a week. She also buys these shoes from Owino market. Unisi uses public transport to and from work. She rents her business premises for 60,000 per month and sells on retail. She sells to an average of ten customers a day and to all categories of people. She has been in this business for the last ten years. She has been in MCDT for five years and is servicing her tenth loan, working all along with the same groupmates. Unisi wants this loan to buy more shoes for resale. She also aspires to expand her business.
About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.
