Description: Yaa Takyiwaa is thirty-five years old. She is married and has given birth to three children, one boy and two girls. She says one of her daughters is in the senior high school while the others are in the junior high and primary school. She lives with her children and husband in a rented house in a small farming community called Nkwateng in the Eastern region of Ghana. The major occupation of the inhabitants, the men in particular, is farming. Most of the women, however, are into trading activities and palm oil production.
Yaa is a food vendor. She cooks rice and stew and sells it at the local school compound. She gets bags of rice and other ingredients from Nkawkaw. Yaa wants a loan to buy bags of rice in bulk so that she can maximize her profit margin. She has been in business for two years and hopes to improve her living standard and give her children the best support that she can.
