Description: Doris Asantewaa is twenty-five years old. She is married and has given birth to four children, one boy and three girls. She says all her children are in the basic school at the moment. She lives with her children and husband in a rented house in a small farming community called Nkwateng in the Eastern region of Ghana. The major occupation of the inhabitants, the men in particular, is farming. Most of the women, however, are involved in trading activities and palm oil production. Her husband sells groceries.
Doris is a food vendor. She cooks rice and stew and sells it by the roadside. She buys bags of rice and other ingredients from Nkawkaw. Doris wants a loan to buy bags of rice in bulk so that she can maximize her profit margin. She has been in business for four years and hopes to improve her living standard and give her children the best of support that she can.
