Are You Confused About Social Networking?
Are you confused by all the social networking sites on offer out there? If so do not feel alone, many others are in the same position as you. I have been an active social networker for the last 5 years, I started with one of the first social networking sites I found and took my time to get to know what social networking was all about. I watched how others connected, who they connected with and worked out what would work for me
I see so many people connect with hundreds of people and just sit there, and do nothing. The purpose of social networking is to connect with others, get to know them, build a relationship with them and see how you can help them. The other benefits include creating an online prescense for your organization and showcasing your expertise. Being seen as an expert in your own field means people are more like to come to you for advice, help, information, and once you have built a relationship of trust referrals will be forthcoming.
You have to be aware of why you are joinging social networking sites. You have to prevent misconceptions by realising the information you place on these sites may lead to confusion if you are not concise. Once you are sure which sites you want to start off with ensure that your branding is consistent on all of the social networking sites you join. Your photo, your logo your message. You are your branding wear it well!
It takes time, effort, work and if you are not enjoying social networking you must be doing something wrong. At first you will likely spend more time building your presence and network of contacts on these sites, eventually you will learn how to slot social networking into your schedule and spend as little as 10 minutes to half an hour a day on this part of your business.
3 things that are important when you enter the arena of social networking,
Awareness
Prevention
Early Detection
Be aware why you are there and what you are doing.
Prevent any challenges that may endanger your reputation, credibility and business ethic.
Detect early any problems, deal with them quickly and move on.
Go and enjoy social networking, it is worthwhile, it can take you far and it is definitely fun.
Some sites I am active on are LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Gather, RedWire and many more.
Social networking is not for everyone, so if you feel it is not for you, move on.
