How The APE Philosophy Can Help Your Organization

Larger organizations may be inclined to not worry about preventing certain challenges occurring. Smaller organizations tend to want to implement strategies because the impact on their company would be much worse. Let's start with security, we know from past experience that customer information, financial information, etc has been compromised, stolen, fraud has taken place, because an organization did not take the steps to secure their IT systems. Maybe this was not an issue that anyone thought could happen, and when it did happen stringent security steps were taken to ensure this could not happen again. In this case the organization did learn from past experience; this is good. Unfortunately, some organizations are aware of what might happen, but fail to act upon it because they do not see the financial implications to their organization being as expensive as the quest to secure the perceived threat. On the other hand they also failed to realise the impact this would have on their customers and, in some cases, have lost a lot of money because the customers lost trust in the organization.

Policies, procedures and not being compliant are also issues that organizations are aware off, and by being compliant it offers, at the least, that prevention is in place. Being aware that the correct policies are in place promotes a healthy workplace, less stress and from a financial view point less financial concerns.

The organizations who are not aware of the compliance issues and fail to prevent challenges cannot detect them earlier due to lack of information, or an intended failure to comply due to the good old "it will never happen to me".

Health & Safety are also benefit from the Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection strategies that are in place. Accidents happen, sometimes the organization are responsible, this results in a financial challenge to the organization. It could be a fine or it could be sick leave which may lead to less productivity, which in turn leads to financial issues long term or short term.

Stress is common, particularly in the workplace. Some signs of stress could be feeling tired all the time, lack of motivation, failure to communicate, headaches, eating too much, or too little, sleep deprivation, to name a few. When stress is evident in the workplace it can impact everyone. Arguments can occur, more accidents and more sick leave. Once again being aware of some of the signs of stress can mean suggesting someone takes a rest, or chats to HR or something similar.

Another important issue could be lack of customer service which results in many challenges for the organization. Once again being aware from the beginning and knowing that customers are being lost and knowing why early on can help tremendously.

Along with APE, which we talked about above, the other important tools are Communication and Change. Communicating effectively can mean less stress, challenges and a happier and healthier workplace, and that includes financial health also. Accepting change is crucial, but being aware of the changes ahead of time, knowing why the changes are happening, and communicating to everyone concerned is beneficial.

Coming up with a business name Coming up with a business name - I've always been curious about how people select their business names and would love to hear how you came up with yours. When I first started my company I was selecting between Evan Carmichael & Associates or the Carmichael Organization. The reason was I had read two books by Anthony Robbins and Donald Trump and learned about how they came up with their companies names to make them look bigger than they were when they were first getting started. Robbins chose Anthony Robbins & Associates while Trump chose the Trump Organization. I settled on Evan Carmichael & Associates and later changed it to Evan Carmichael Communications Group when I incorporated on the advice of my lawyer. I agree that it is not the most innovative name out there but my business is about building a brand. I would love to hear how you came up with your company name!
