When I Grow Up I Want To Be Rich!

Written by: Linda Ockwell-Jenner

Article Overview: When we are young we dream of being a nurse, or a film star, or a fireman, and then we actually find a job we enjoy and we earn money. Some of us might actually end up following our dream, but not all of us are that motivated or passionate and settle for something else. One of my sons used to tell me he wanted to be a doctor or an accountant so he could earn lots of money.

When I Grow Up I Want To Be Rich!

When I grow up I want to be rich! I heard my 2nd son say that so many times when he was a little boy. Not wanting to upset him or de motivate him I would ask him how he could be rich when he was all grown up. He would tell me that his choice of job would make him very rich. He wanted to be a doctor or an accountant.

My son, like so many other people in the world did not follow his dream, either of being rich or becoming an accountant or a doctor. I know why he failed to follow through and that's ok, he made choices and he now lives with his choices. I was very like him when I was a High School student, my dream was to attend Art College and become a famous dress designer. I also did not follow through and live my dream. I made my choices and I am happy with them.

What I tell the High School Students when I visit their schools to talk about future careers is that money cannot bring everything you want, but it helps. I have no problem with anyone wanting to be rich, but I would hope that they enjoy the process and wake up each morning wanting to go to work and actually enjoying the work they do.

What is being rich? Are we talking about having more money than we could ever spend, or in my case, is it rich being happy, healthy and enjoying a job I am passionate about.

I am all grown up now and know that money makes the world goes around, and without it we can experience hard times, but it does not take a lot of money to follow your dream, I know because that's just what I did!
