Re: Owning a social network software...How is it?? Re: Owning a social network software...How is it?? - Hi, I am a big fan of social networking software (75% of our business) but what we constantly have to remind people is the concept of a social network has been around for ages. It just so happens MySpace & Facebook made the ability to do it free & online mainstream and the rest is history. Our company finds that pre-developed social networking applications do not create good internet business. The simple reason is a social network is not an internet business; all it is a group of link minded individuals that are able to communicate with one another through the medium you provide. A construction company can build an office building...but that does not make it a profitable business. You need to (1) build your business and (2) build social networking software features around that business. So my advice to you, just like facebook.com opened up their code, make your social networking software open so ANYONE can modify it to meet their needs. Jeff

Jeff[/quote:1ckdc0r2] We were talking about this on another thread. There are plenty of social networks online, so it seems at this point if a person plans to start a new network - what makes them special or unique? What will be their approach to entice people to join and more importantly to participate on a regular basis? Chris

Social Networks Social Networks - [quote="franchisebrief.com":bnjek0hs]Yet another social website.... While I haven't tried it, I can't tell about the quality of the site. However, I am getting over all these social websites such as myspace, facebook, etc..... Instead of spending time on those sites, I'd rather spend time working on my own site or writing articles or doing something that I am sure will generate results.[/quote:bnjek0hs] An advantage with the social networking sites is that they give you access to people that may never find your website. Once the sites are set up, most need little effort to maintain them. Chris
Launching a social networking platform Launching a social networking platform - Hi Ashish, Rapidsoft, My thoughts were initially with Chris on this one. It seems like everyone is launching their own social networking site these days! The fact that you are opening up a platform gives you an interesting product, however, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you launch it. My suggestion would be to tie it in with already existing platforms and have it as an add on. For example, my forum uses the popular forums software phpbb. If your platform integrated with phpbb then you would be able to take advantage of the almost 1,000 members that we already have in the forums. As a website owner I would be much more likely to try a social networking platform that worked with my existing community on phpbb than to try to set up a stand alone model. There are also thousands upon thousands of phpbb forums. All you would have to do is contact each owner and offer your platform as an extension of their forums. It's a no brainer for the website owners if your platform adds value. Good luck!
