Help for Surviving Current Recession
Surviving current recession is a burden we all are facing,
some more so than others. With more unemployment, lower wages and higher living
expenses people are concerned about getting through these tough financial
times. This situation is hard on many but it is nothing we as mankind haven’t
faced before. The only difference is the people who are involved and their past
experiences.
There are many challenges to surviving current recession but
if we keep our concentration on our needs and not our wants we will realize it
will pass. We need to see the importance of supplying our necessities and how
wasteful we truly are. To often we place emphasis on things that don’t have an
impact on our lives, but we still want them. Wants are fine but they must be
put in their proper place and accumulated after the basics have been met. Many
times we get our wants first and then deal with the required things after, this
will cause more financial woes then we would ever expect.
One primary problem with this financial situation is today’s
society or generation hasn’t faced any difficult times. I know there are many
people who have experienced them but the majority of middle aged and young
adults today have grown up without any shortages. They have been the recipients
of instant gratification, inflated self-esteem and many times had things
supplied upon their demand. They seldom heard the word “NO” and when they do it
is an experience they can’t accept. Their parents have always tried to give
them the best they could and make life as easy as possible for them, and that
is a parent’s attitude. I am as guilty as anyone else who has done this; we
weren’t well to do but were more blessed then some, and we did try to give our
children more than we had growing up. They didn’t receive all of their wants
but they did have more than they needed. We tried to instill in them the
importance of applying Christian principles so they would be able to function
in society properly and they have proved that to be profitable.
The solution to surviving current recession is not to become
overwhelmed with the circumstances. When conditions aren’t like we wish we
often become depressed and disgruntled. Everything is wrong and we aren’t
satisfied with anything. Everyone is the cause of our problems and we resent
them for it. These are the attitudes we must resist the most; they multiply our
frustrations and turn us against those closest to us. We should realize we
aren’t alone in these times and consider the blessings we have. Now is the time
to view the problems we could be facing that others have and be thankful we
have been spared from those. This is when we need the strength and support of
our faith and allowing it to carry us through. Beginning each day with an
attitude of being grateful for what we have and not begrudging others of what
we don’t.
The needs of people are great but if everyone decides to
face their problems they can be overcome. History teaches we must do what we
must to provide for ourselves. Put our pride and selfishness behind us and do
what others are unwilling to do. There is no shame in doing things we feel we
are to good for. It will train us to be thankful for the abilities and
strengths we possess and an appreciation for the small blessings we receive.
Individually we must concur our own obstacles, no can do it for us.
Don’t look at those who have more and be resentful, look at
those who have less and be thankful.
