Leaders Can't Resist Change
There is no way we can expect a permanent position
in any area of business. The marketplace moves with the winds and stops at
nothing. We must always be ready to adjust our actions and abilities, as
society deems necessary. It makes no difference the scope of our endeavor
change will be inevitable.
Change is often required in the operation of a
business and this can be a challenging time for leaders as well as followers.
All people are alike subconsciously, just because one is a leader does not mean
they aren’t reluctant also. We all resist new ways and ideas dreading the
different circumstances to come, no matter how openly we try to think. This is
where the traits of good leadership must be present and never having an unwillingness
to adjust. This is when leaders must step up and embrace the new concept in
order to speed its acceptance by others.
The process of accomplishing a change can be as
strenuous, if not more so, on leaders as it is on followers. As time passes
leaders become comfortable in their positions and the procedures of the
operation. They have learned every aspect of it and how others react to certain
inputs, they know what to expect from whom and how to respond and all the
limitations involved. Now with revisions to be implemented their learning
process must begin again. Everyone is unsure of how the new system will affect
him or her and even if the outcome will be positive. Leaders must not only
adapt to differences in their responsibilities but also help others adjust to
theirs.
We as leaders should be in a constant state of
change, conscious of the needs and growth of those around us. The world of
business is constantly moving to new trends and technology, with a never
slowing transformation of customer desires. It is imperative to always watch
and study the purchasing trends of our market base in preparation of new
developments. Tomorrow’s expectations can’t be predicted and so our mindset
should be directed toward the future.
Leadership cannot rest on its laurels and expect to
continue the level of success they have achieved. No amount of opposition to
new procedures and knowledge will prevent the need to replace antiquated ways.
It is our obligation to be proficient in our expertise and prepared to accomplish
the next mission.
