Speak and Think the Positive
To often we fail to speak
and think the positive, instead we are negative about things and that only
brings us more discomfort. No matter what area of life we consider, being
negative about it only makes things worse.
I have realized that even the simplest of terms can change
the emotional feeling I have about things. By merely saying I want a certain
item rather than saying I don’t want something else gives a lighter impression
inside me. The heaviness that comes from the resistance of things and the
burden of fighting against its possibility aren’t present and are replaced with
a peaceful calm. No longer refusing the existence of a condition or
circumstance, we are accepting what we like and desire and give it an appealing
position. This will relieve the stress and tension of the situation inside us
and allows us to confront it rationally.
A positive attitude and outlook on things doesn’t
necessarily make things better but it does help us see them in a different
light. When problems arise we must contend with, looking at it in the
perspective of being a challenge instead, it can be faced, overcome and put
behind us. The word “problem” itself gives the impression of something that is
difficult and possibly can’t be conquered. And so it is with many words and
statements we use, enlarging and changing our vocabulary and thinking we can
correct and alter our attitudes. This sounds to easy to be true, but if we will
consider how different words make us feel, the concept has greater
possibilities. When we speak and think
the positive our feelings are
also more positive and the aggravation and irritation we may have eases also.
Another way to ease negative feelings is to make your
situations positive and add a time frame to them. For example, if you say you
can’t stand a person or condition, instead say you can tolerate them or it for
a length of time. You mentally accept that the time will pass and the
uncomfortable event will end which releases that stress. Your mind remembers
and reinforces the tolerance you have accepted and makes it more bearable. To
many times we imagine things are more dreadful than they are, causing them to
be intolerable and us unwilling to face them.
The ability to control us is within each of us and no one
else. It is our responsibility to learn how we function and how things affect
us. Finding and applying the tools needed to keep our emotions and actions
aligned with our beliefs and standards is the critical part of the task.
Knowing what will help guide us toward where we want to be is the first step of
a more peaceful journey.
