The first requirement in business is getting customers to see your product. There are many ways this can be accomplished but they all are considered advertising. Whether they find out about it by someone telling them or by the most extravagant ad campaign, your information is presented to them. This is the beginning of the purchasing process, which finally results in making a sale. The ways advertising is applied have changed through the years but the desired outcome is the same. Many people today feel the old means of print ads is a thing of the past and with the growth of computer technology this may be partially true. With the decline of individuals viewing paper versions of newspapers and magazines, which are now available online, they still offer an avenue for advertisement. This also supports many ideas of having an internet marketing program to present your product or service to the masses.

Having a program that is part of your business’s advertising department is the most desirable but can be time consuming if the staff isn’t comfortable with the processes. The effort and training required to gain this skill can be overwhelming but the long-term results would be the most beneficial. These programs can also be implemented and maintained by an outside contractor but could be a continual and expensive. Most businesses don’t wish to add to their operating cost and this may be one-reason companies don’t actively use online marketing. They see the advantages and benefits but they can’t justify the spending and as a result, leave it alone. They may have a website to give them an online presence but it only offers basic information. They may reference it in their communications and other types of advertising but seldom use it as it could be utilized and with no means of drawing customers.

The types of advertising available online are unimaginable and each one has almost as many aspects. The advantage of the product you wish to focus on will determine how the marketing is applied. Everything depends on the desired result and how those doing it wish to drive the customer traffic. Marketers can use the method of promotion that they are most comfortable with and as their abilities grow they can add others to enhance their products appeal. This also permits the including of different groups of people to connect with your product that may not normally do so, how you present it changes its attraction. The amazing point is as you spot light the different features of your item the greater you will see the potential it contains, opening more avenues to exhibit its value.

The promotion of products and services on the internet has been done for years, but to those who are new to online advertising it can be confusing. This is where an internet marketing program will assist you in clarifying the procedures and teach the processes required for success. How you accomplish your internet presence is your choice. Choosing to improve your own abilities will not only allow you keep the control of your business but also determine the correct direction to proceed.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
