How to Create Successful Banner Ads

Your marketing message to the world can be displayed through your banners. A great banner ad campaign creates brand awareness and helps maintain customer interest. However, it's very competitive out there, so it helps to have a strategy. Here are some tips to help you on your way.

Send a Clear Message

Banners should be clear, informative and brief. Just one look should reveal your product, and entice potential customers to click through. You can get creative, if you want, as long as your message is clear. However, if you're offering a discount or promotion, it's best to be direct.

Keep it Simple

A single image with a clutter-free design is less overwhelming and more inviting. Flashy banners are more likely to be ignored altogether. Keep it simple and you won't mask the message with the design.

Ease of Use

Always be mindful of usability. Be sure your banner links to the product that you're displaying. If it doesn't, it can take away from the customer experience, and you certainly wouldn't want that.

Capture Their Attention

One of the best ways to get the consumer's attention is with a promotion or discount. How about free shipping? Or, what about 10% off if they order by Friday. You could even include a promo code. This way you could track conversions, and see which offers work best.

Test it

Try an A/B test. Every time the page refreshes have the banners switch back and forth. Display a general banner that links to your site, and then display one with a bestseller. This is a great way to compare products.

Reel ‘Em In

It's all about the follow through. Don't forget a call to action. They've already been enticed by your banner, and now you've got to ask them to take the next step. Something as simple as a "Click Here" button is very effective in driving clicks.
