LED Savings Evident to Retailers From Indoor Lighting to Outdoor Signs

When retailers began learning about the cost savings generated just by switching to LED lighting, no one could have imagined how contagious that effort would be. Today retailers, churches, schools, and financial institutions nationwide are honing in on the value that LEDs provide. Macy's is one of the latest to get on board.

Macy's is not considered a small company, but implementing changes at their size does bring attention to a growing understanding. As a major retailer they recognize they can save a lot of money through one simple change - replacing existing bulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting. According to the April 21, 2011 post on ChainstoreAge.com, Macy's plans to replace bulbs in 200 stores nationwide by the end of the year in addition to the 130,000 LEDs installed in 95 stores during 2010. The additional 280,000 LED bulbs installed this year are expected to reduce megawatt consumption by 16,200 annually.

Macy's may be the first to overhaul their lighting with energy-efficient LEDs, but they won't be the last. LED outdoor signs are an even larger source of cost savings to local retailers, who often have a difficult time maintaining their signs due to the associated expenses involved in the frequent, routine maintenance traditional signage incurs. LED outdoor signs need much less attention partly because they only need bulb replacement around every ten years. That's significant to stores much smaller in scale to Macy's.

Smaller, local retailers can now afford to retrofit or replace their outdoor signs, and save money while they're doing it. Leasing options make affording initial installation much more tangible, requiring little up-front cost and five year terms. Since LED outdoor signs perform better and cost less to operate, they can be expected to pay for themselves in under two years.

Traditional incandescent and fluorescent light disposal has been an issue for local landfills for decades. LED lighting lasts much longer and burns brighter than earlier options, keeping them from filling up those precious few remaining places to the same degree.

As the country focuses more closely on green initiatives, LEDs become a more significant element. From Christmas lighting to indoor accent lighting to outdoor business signs, retailers recognize their choices directly impact both revenue and expenditures. Manufacturers are systematically phasing out incandescent bulbs as they watch trends become greener. Over the next few years retail choices made now will become evident. Those choices will directly impact consumer pricing, and ultimately, which companies can afford to operate and compete.

Re: Cold Calling Re: Cold Calling - CPM is calculated by a study developed by the Truckads company. As far as the accuracy of this calculation is concerned, I am not 100%. We are planning on commissioning an audit from that TAB or Outdoor Association of Canada as soon as we have the money in our budget. Right now, not having audited figures is a bit of a handicap.
Clothing Franchises Clothing Franchises - I believe that there are quite a few franchises for larger brands such as Diesel, Lacoste and Bennetton etc... but I am not sure how these contracts work. Re: Prospecting for a Franchise? Hold Tight Re: Prospecting for a Franchise? Hold Tight - This lame duck sitting of the president reallly needs to stop. I don't like Obama and don't think he'll be good for the country...but heck, let him start now so that banks and businesses will know immediately what to expect with his economic plans -- capital gains tax, and so on. If businesses are reassured, maybe things can *start* to get back to normal. As it is, it should be an interesting Christmas. Retailers are going to be hit hard...but if people are smart they won't be putting themselves further in debt by buying expensive toys...
Re: How do you budget your life? Re: How do you budget your life? - I agree that the Tithe 10% and Personal Long Term Savings 10% have been the most consistent percentages for me over the years. The Richest Man in Babylon is a book that really helps nail that point. there's something subconcious about knowing that you're not just working to pay the bills. You're actually creating a long term quality lifestyle and significant retirement for you and your family. The other percentages have shifted over the years but those number have been constant.
