SMEs - should despots and dictators be given a free pass

There are two views on this. One view is the Zuma view, that if they get a pass and leave, these countries will then be able to move forward. But does this not say it is okay and leave the door open for the next lot?

An alternative view is that they should be guaranteed a trial for crimes against humanity if they do not leave within a pre-defined period of time. African leaders whose countries are riddled with corruption should also be treated as criminals in respect of crimes against humanity. This ongoing problem with corruption is making things worse for local populations and should be treated accordingly.

My feeling is they should be given deadlines. Why does Africa always believe it is due special treatment? They do not! I say trial for all these despots and dictators. No free pass!

Re: In-House or Outsource? Re: In-House or Outsource? - Unfortunately, in the South African context, very few SMEs see outsourcing as an option. They believe it is too expensive, and they are paranoid that someone will "steal their ideas". I believe that the three main functions that cannot be outsourced are marketing, sales and strategy. These must be done in house I believe. If you do not have the marketing skills then get them. Hire a consultant or attend a course, but get the skills. Even if you use a consultant, you need to understand what marketing is about, as no one knows your market like you do. Marketing is made to seem difficult and complex, but everyone who really understands their markets, can easily learn to do their own marketing. In South Africa, labour legislation is extremely inflexibile, and consequently labour broking is a large industry. This is an ideal starting point for SMEs in South Africa, as it is a legally complex area, whih comes with severe penalties. I say do it! Rob Smorfitt
Offer on your Biz cards - idea! Offer on your Biz cards - idea! - If you've already printed a lot of business cards and feel that you would like to add an offer or notice that there is free information/guide/research paper available on your site etc.. you can still do so on the white background on the back of your card. Print up some labels with the offer and neatly stick it on the back of your card. Yeah, it may seem a little sloppy but this way you can test your different offers on the back of your cards. Most people won't mind and will actually be curious as most people are with an intriguing offer or may actually pass your card on to someone they may think might be interested in your free information. Just an idea that came to me when I was talking to my Business Tax preparer on the idea and saw a bunch on labels beside her.

Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? - [quote="GT Bulmer":ccjkc6fu]Hi, Kevin: Never pass up a promotional opportunity! But do try to be somewhat prepared.[/quote:ccjkc6fu] Hi GT, But what if you were asked to speak on live television about your business and to share advice... and be interviewed by a host? If you're not comfortable speaking in front of a camera, live audience and answering spontaneous questions (which is VERY different than giving a speech where you control the variables such as topic and questions, etc.) and you mess up by stuttering or looking nervous... wouldn't that do more harm than good for your business? And in that case, shouldn't you pass on that media opportunity?
