The cell phone has in my opinion been a major contributor to greater democracy in Africa. It has allowed the truth to filter through government propaganda, and people are therefore better informed.
This has also allowed people to get more organised politically and economically.
The one thing that has not shared the same growth is the access to Internet. While I myself have seen Internet access in small cafes in Zanzibar, Botswana and South Africa, it is not widespread, it is horrifically expensive, and you seldom see anyone but tourist using it.
It is the most incredible business tool and there has to be emphasis by African governments to make like Singapore and make sure it is in every home.
SME's need cheap fast and easy Internet access, and the knowledge to use it properly.
