If there is one area in which companies often choose to spend a large part of their money, it is on creating and disseminating a successful brand. After all, isn’t that one of the key secrets to how the likes of McDonald’s and Nike got ahead? But, if you do choose to put your money behind a professional to help you get the job done, how do you know it will be worthwhile? This article will help you choose which of the many branding agencies out there are not only legit, but will be the best fit for you and your business.

First of all, when choosing a firm to help define and create your business’ brand, you need to be aware of who it is exactly that stands behind that firm. What are the professional backgrounds of the company’s staff? Are you going to get people who are knowledgeable about not just marketing and market research, but also public relations, languages, graphic design, and technology? All of those domains are invaluable in the creation of a strong brand. Make sure that any company you go into business with has staff with a wide range of experience and qualifications.

Secondly, who can attest to the success of these firms? Does their website list any testimonials from past clients? If not, that’s your first sign to cross them off the list. If they do, who have their clients been in the past? Has the company worked with others in your field before? Have clients by and large been satisfied with the results of the firm’s work? Are there any case studies that are available for the public to see? You need to be able to evaluate the results they purport to deliver, instead of just trusting their word.

Along with not having any client testimonials, you should look at the branding agencies’ websites as a whole. Are they professionally designed? Are they easy to load as well as being easy on the eye? What can you determine about their own brand? Do you like their logo, graphics, motto? If you don’t think they are effectively communicating their own message, then chances are you won’t be happy with what they do for you.

You need to do your homework before you sign on to any plans with any firms. Narrow down your list to a few in whom you see the most promise and give them a call. Request a meeting with a representative from the firm. See how your request is dealt with as that will be a good indicator of their level and quality of service. Are you spoken to courteously? Is someone able to meet with you in the near future or are you put onto the firms’ backburner? Do you get a friendly feeling from them?

Like any other major decision, choosing branding agencies all really comes down to one thing: trusting your instincts. If even the small warning bells go off in your mind, then listen to that and move on to the next firm.

Re: Direct Mail Postcards Re: Direct Mail Postcards -
Kevin, your situation is very common. Get's me wondering if advertisers are just being lazy and "blanket" areas with advertising hoping that some will stick and get people to respond. mathew1 used the word "targeted" alot but I think that's what most advertisers are either not doing or not going deep enough in their targeting. I disagree that direct mail is more important to small business. Yes, it get's done more often within small businesses but that's 'cos of a small budget and them being forced to utilize it to it's fullest. Big Business focus so much more on Branding and Image Management since they have larger budgets but they also do a fair bit of direct mail and other methods.[/quote:2r71nzqq] Hi Andy, I'd say "naive" is a better word. In fact, "blanketing" areas with unwanted solicitation/ads is costly and will only hurt small businesses in the eyes of consumers (who will resent it).
Re: Direct Mail Postcards Re: Direct Mail Postcards -
But how do you prevent people from just throwing out your direct mail as unwanted solicitation? Anytime I get direct mail, I toss it out. I've noticed solicitors using cheap tricks like printing the message in "hand writing" to make the letter seem more personal.
