Software Programs for Logo Design

Software Programs for Logo Design

I’m not trying to say one software program is better than another; in fact, this is not a comparison between various types of software. It is to give people who have never designed a logo an idea of the types of programs they can use to design a logo, other than drawing one and giving it to someone to make into a logo for a website.

First things first, word processing programs have fonts; you can change the size of the letters even, or use some of the interesting tools various word processing programs have. These, however, are not suitable programs for logo design. Often people will create logo using word processing programs, only to have to have them redone, because they format in incorrect.

Logo designsoftwareprograms are graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Macromedia Freehand. There are all kinds of great tools available in these programs for creating great logos. These programs are great for changing all kinds of things into a bitmap format you can easily load onto a website.

So as an example, you can spend some time getting several great ideas down, using something like a drawing tablet for a computer, putting ideas down, changing them to fit the concepts you had in mind better, then enhance the ideas through a graphics program. You can add or change colors, and play around will all kinds of changes, and save each idea. Having various references of where the idea has been and where it has gone is great, especially with how many different tools graphics programs can put into your hands.

Scalable logos are important in web design work, sometimes you’ll want a larger image, sometimes a smaller one, perhaps to use as an Icon. Illustration or drawing programs produce scalable artwork, great for all around design software. But for commercial applications you’ll want something you can change the format with, like .jpg or .gif, depending on the needs of the situation. You’ll want another program where all of this is easily done such as Adobe Photoshop.

Another great thing about programs such as Adobe Photoshop is the ability to change much of the design on the fly. Nothing really ever becomes set, and it is easy to add anything an occasion might desire.

As an example, say a website is having a special occasion. We’ll say some kind of summer kick off, and they want their logo represented in an event logo. Using a program like Adobe Photoshop, you can easily add pictures or graphics to a logo, and change the new logo to any kind of format that may be necessary. Additionally, photo’s can be cropped with these types of programs, and added to a picture, if you want to represent any specific event with the logo.

At the end of the day, a web designer needs the right tools for the job, and should be acquainted with their uses. Changes are always necessary, especially with the speed of changes these days, staying one step ahead of the curve is the name of the game.
