Web Content: Quality Over Quantity
There are many theories running around out there about web content and design. One of them is more is better. The more theories suppose that getting a higher hit rate because of random phrases can get better search hits. These companies there, go out and hire cheap writers to create their blog content, and suppose the website will do well.
These writers are seldom native English speakers and will do as many as five hundred words for a dollar. Their content is disjointed, making little or no sense, as their English spelling and grammar checks are done with online programs they cannot understand, so ad punctuation in strange places.
Suppose this kind of content did appear on a web search, a person reads, and quickly discards the site, because the writing is absolutely abysmal. If the reader can barely understand the direction of a piece of writing, it can barely be called content. Moreover, the website would be better served by writers who can actually write, who are used to English as a primary language at least.
Another poor choice, especially for blog content, are huge lists such as “50 top 10 lists Regarding Bad Movies” which only list various pieces of information which may or may not be of any interest at all. If there is a good way to do a list, it should be short, no more than ten items or so, perhaps as many as twenty if the blog is very long. Take some time to go into each number in a bit of detail; at least a paragraph should explain why each choice is of importance and why it has the place given in the list.
Instead of focusing on how many hits you can generate with poor content, an approach favoring consistent if perhaps slow content will help a website a great deal more in the long run. High quality content is what keeps web users coming back for more, not seeing a poorly done blog on a web search.
So how does a website get better web search hits, aside from search engine optimization, just like its counterparts if not by added bulk content? Web designers may be spoiled by the rapid success of some websites, but many websites take some time to get established. Remember success can take some time, so be patient with your content.
Diluted content is all over the internet, blogs with virtually no work put into them, flash games which are issue prone, or content that is constantly under construction. Gaining a following is difficult, especially when a web site seems half finished and poorly thought out. On the outset of the web design, work on a strong strategy, make a plan and follow it. This approach will render better content, rather than a series of lists and poorly worked blogs.
When it’s all said and done, quality keeps web browsers coming back, quantity may snag them off a search engine, but will not keep them. Of course the website should be filled in with both user content and some provided by the web design team or a staff of writers, but make sure there is a good mix of well done content.
