The Internet is bursting with ideas these days on how to design a more interesting website. There are more ideas than website archetypes it would seem. Trying to design from an original perspective can be difficult at times, so this piece will be going over a design idea in a few broad steps.

To start, image there is a website dedicated to home decorating and design products, think curtains, couch covers, wall papers etc. Imagine instead of a series of drop down menus there were a picture of a room. This room would be non de-script with clickable images and perhaps furniture.

Again imagine that each thing could be clicked on, giving a brief description of the item, such as curtains or couch cover. Now there could be either a clickable link from that to a page where all available options are listed. These options could be chosen, and applied to the page itself, giving a different, customizable appearance to the page.

The second idea here could be a drop down menu with small thumbnails of each choice. Imagine the enjoyment viewers would have being able to customize a room. This would enable them to see how colors and patterns work together to form a cohesive room.

These types of websites should be starting soon, though the work to create one could be a bit much, the potential revenue should be apparent. An Idea such as this is the next best thing to an in home trial over the internet. Remember web viewers love of the new? This would be revolutionary.

Interactivity is important for many web users, if you have a business trying to sell a specific product, imagine the possibilities such an interactive website could bring to a web user. Content on the fly is something a few websites have tried for, such as Scion’s website. For those of you who are not familiar with Scion, they are a branch of Toyota who specialize in customizable cars for under $20.

What interactive websites have been able to do is revolutionize the web design market, though it has not always been inexpensive. Before starting such a colossal project, look at revenue and budget. If the budget is not available, do not try to cut corners, giving a half finished approach to such a website.

There is an alternative approach for those with a smaller budget. Because we have all seen the same desktop presentations a hundred if not a thousand times, perhaps it can be improved. Image a high definition three dimensional picture, of perhaps a room or mall, where the links are listed as stores to be clicked on. The trick here is not to make the picture overly cheap seeming.

These are a few directions a new website could be taken. Remember to keep each idea concise, and not to try to accomplish too much with it. Remember web browsers like things which are not overly difficult to figure out. Best of luck with the new website ideas, if done right anything new can be smashing.
