Article Overview: Change is on my mind. It is everywhere inside our own businesses. I mean EVERYWHERE. I recently remembered that I want it that way. But... there are definitely times that I forget. How do I forget you ask? Simply, I let stress slip in. But that’s not change’s fault. Somehow change has acquired a bad rep. Change is on my mind.
We try to keep things calm, even, familiar...stress-free that’s the ticket. It’s all change’s fault. Right?
Let’s look some of the definitions of the word “change” that apply to business:
1. To cause to be different or undergo alteration
2. To lay aside, abandon, or leave for another
3. The act, process, or result of altering or modifying
4. A transformation or transition from one state, condition, or phase to another
When you really take in these definitions, you realize why you should really want change. How could your business grow without undergoing alteration, modifying how it operates and transforming into your fullest vision for it?
Philosophers debate whether change is random or change is cyclical. Either way, I accept that change is a constant, period. Your business is either growing or shrinking. And growth, results from change. I don’t know about you I choose growth.
Reinventing the corporation is an expansive subject with over 1, 500,000 web pages devoted to it. You must master change to reinvent yourself and your business. Some companies swap leadership, some add free-wheeling internal entrepreneurial skunk squads to achieve a break-through.
Two versions of change made the Top 30 Golden Rules in the magazine Business 2.0. Ed Zander of Motorola says, “look for ways to break your business” (change it); Alex Bogusky of Cripsin, Porter & Bogusky says, “Reinvent Yourself. Repeat.”
Sounds stressful? RE-invent, break, even the “c” in change feels harsh. The clashing of things constant and things different can feel stress-like. However, it is not change that causes stress. It is our ability to lead through it; yourself and others.
Here are four ways to take that step:
• Understand the Conditions — Combat concerns, prevent limiting beliefs or fears from creeping into your experience by knowing the truth. Accept that change is constant. Take a thorough inventory of the conditions encompassing you and your business.
• Take Charge, Make Choices — Embrace change by actively looking for ways to change what you do. Don’t allow the chance for random change to happen to you, instead take charge and make decisions true to your brand AND your values. Undefined change is unknown and causes fear, to master it you must define it.
• Set Expectations with Clear Intentions — Understand that when your business grows, something will always go wrong. Don’t seek perfection; instead seek guidance and grace to make the best decisions each and every time. Document the corrective processes used to prevent repetitive conditions.
• Make Relationships a Top Priority — Grow with integrity and excellence. Everyone, including you, is important and valued. Communicate openly with your team; make clear requests that are true to the company and your needs. Touch your customers before, during and quickly whenever something doesn't go just right. Go to great lengths to make it right.
When one is being really truthful to one’s self, no one wants the same thing day in and day out. Treat yourself, your team and your customers honestly, openly and respectfully. Set your expectation that change is constant and master it. Be willing to make mistakes and fix anything that happens with grace and humility. Then you will have mastered change and you and your business cannot help but grow... and grow...and grow.

Re: Spellcheck? Re: Spellcheck? -
When discussing the majority of people I would definitely say that most people hit the "Change" or "Ignore" button without thinking too much about the correct spelling of a word. All bosses are concerned about is getting the report to the Directors meeting on time.[/quote:2f894q6j] That probably depends on what the "majority" are trying to accomplish. I have word set to alert me about misspellings and grammatical problems, so I fix most as I go. But I also add names etc to the dictionary because I get tired of seeing the red and green squiggles when I know the info is right. If you're only going to click "Change" or "Ignore" then why bother to take the time to use spell check????? Business people that I work for want the info compiled in a timely manner and they want it right - which is fine because that's the way I strive to do any project. Sending out a memo, letter, report etc with obvious spelling and grammatical mistakes makes the person and the company look bad as far as I'm concerned. Shri
Re: e-Commerce and e-Payment providers Re: e-Commerce and e-Payment providers - Hi GT It is only fairly recently that people in South Africa have been able to get full use of Paypal as we were only able at one time to make payments but not receive them. Fortunately this has now changed. I have received money through Global X Change for one of the affiliate programs that I promote and have found them pretty good as the money is normally transferred directly into my bank account within 2-3 days and I have not had any problems with them. It's not easy It's not easy - Evan, It's not easy to franchise a business! Franchising requires a strong business model, significant capital resources, and very talented people to be successful. There are over 3000 franchise opportunities out there, most (80%) don't have the three criteria I listed above. The biggest benefit to using franchising to grow your business is that you bring in someone else's capital and human resource. What you are giving up is control in operating that business. I have seen successful companies get in trouble attempting to franchise their business, franchising requires a different skill set than simply operating units. Growth would have been much easier if they had just opened their own units and sought grown from within.

Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals -
Obama WILL make changes... but they're not the changes we as a country need or should look forward to.[/quote:3kaa8sg4] Sad but this is exactly how I feel about it. Change is coming - but unless I'm really wrong, it is not a change this country needs. Amazing how much a good speaker with a good speech writer can do. If you paid attention to the things he said "off script" - much of it is frightening. Chris
