Business Coaching doing what the client finds most important

Most of my clients are business clients. They're looking to make their business more effective, profitable, enjoyable. So we set business goals. But all of my clients take an overview of their life, and we return to that overview periodically. Sometimes, what's important includes other things besides business.
One of my clients (we'll call him Rich) completed the overview and complained that he was way overweight. In fact, he weighed 356 pounds!

"Before working with Craig, I was extremely overweight and out of shape with very little energy. As a former collegiate athlete, I was very unhappy with my physical condition, not allowing myself to look in the mirror and wondering how I got this way."

"With Craig's coaching, I was able to set goals, prioritize what is really important in my life and begin a change in my life that will stay with me forever. 1. I have lost over 50 pounds and now make smart choices in my nutrition everyday. 2. I used to be out of breath walking around the block. Now, I am able to jog 2 miles! 3. My wife was so impressed with my progress; it motivated her to lose 25 pounds! "

At this writing, in April of 2003, Rich has now dumped 110 pounds in about 9 months and done wonders for his fitness.. Not only that, but Rich's wife has gotten caught up in the spirit of the game, and has gone from a size 16 to a size 8. Between the two of them, the family has lost over 150 pounds!

In our coaching sessions, we still primarily talk about Rich's business, which has just about doubled in gross income, and is doing nicely. But Rich has also just completed a 10 Kilometer race - absolutely unthinkable 6 months ago. And he's now thinking about a half-marathon. Most of us aren't ready for a run around the block!

If you said "Rich must have incredible will-power - far more than the average person" I'd have to agree. I don't think he's missed a workout since he started his program! But he didn't know he had that will-power until he decided he was ready to test himself. And the coaching makes a space for you to perform.

"Craig Jennings provides a wealth of knowledge and experience to the areas of your life that need the most help. Through the personal and professional relationship that Craig develops with you, he focuses you on the solutions that will improve your quality of life and helps you achieve what you thought was impossible."

Many businesses and coaches use testimonials as marketing tools, and I'm no exception. The exception is this client - so I celebrate Rich here as an inspiration to us all.

I can't promise you the kind of weight loss Rich generated. But I can promise you that we'll find out what's important to you and we'll take it on. You provide the courage to say what you want. Together, we will find the path to your goals.

Entrepreneurs and small-business owners use me to create change.  Ah Chage!  It's the human capability we do best, and avoid most!  Of course, the trick is not only knowing what's holding you back, it's knowing who's holding you back!

If you've ever driven a vehicle with the handbrake on, you discover how wonderful professional business coaching can be.  When you release the handbrake, suddenly the car leaps ahead, performance and mileage improves, and the lousy smell stops!  Professional Business Coaching is sometimes just like that.  Other times, it is just hard, careful work.

My promise:  If you work with me you will think differently, take action, and your situation will improve.

New Study - Women prepare better business plans New Study - Women prepare better business plans - I found an article in Business Week and I found this quite interesting. [quote:ka7lg35i]Who Prepares Better Business Plans, Men or Women? A new study based on four years of data from men and women in a training program for microenterprises finds that they come out the same in quality scores. "However, women scored significantly better on the presentation of their plan to judges," conclude the study's authors, Ronald G. Cook, Paul Belliveau, and Christine Lentz of Rider University, in a paper presented at a recent meeting of the Small Business Institute. [/quote:ka7lg35i] What do you guys think?
Exclusive: Interview with Results Exclusive: Interview with Results - Hi Forum Members, I'm helping start up a Business Coaching and Consulting company here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (a Subsidiary of RSC Business in Los Angeles). As a Research and Development Intern I am required to practice my listening and interview skills by surveying Small and Medium Businesses on thier Business. This Survey is designed by RSC Business to also assist the Business being interviewed more insight into their own business. I am looking to interview about 30 businesses across North America over the span of 3 months. At the end of these interviews I will be publishing a report of the results and they will be made available for free to the Interviewees. The Report data will include responses from a minimum of 100 interviews. I would like to extend this opportunity to members of the Forum. If you would like to have this short 20-30 minute interview conducted on your Business and you reside in North America please send me an email or PM. Please contact me at andy[at]jvprosperity[dot]com to arrange our interview and to get free access to the results when they are published.
Business Coaching Internship Review Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
