YCDABSOYA Or "confessions of a small-business coach."

If you want what you haven't got, you have to do what you don't do.

After all, we took on running our own business for several reasons, and one of them was not having to answer to "the man" or simply owning the right to procrastinate.

Is this one of those interesting pairings of folk wisdom, like "look before you leap" and

"he who hesitates is lost!"?

I got this message for myself not too long ago when my marketing was slowing down.

I followed the same routines, and got the same results. But the results were inadequate.

With a little coaching, I reached back and found my built-in entrepreneur - yes, I had to look in the mirror - and got myself committed to having 10 conversations for possibility per week. Right - I just wasn't making the calls.

Now declarations are wonderful but you and I know how to wiggle out of the most blatant.

Here's what can shift for you, as it shifted for me.

The way you generated your business in the first place was to invent it, and then do things you weren't certain about. If you find yourself getting comfortable in adversity, it's time to re-generate the entrepreneur.

Lifting yourself by your own bootstraps is absurd physics, and an embarrassing posture. What's necessary is to get serious about addressing adversity.

I'd like to speak here to all the small business owners who are "struggling in a down economy", "unable to get financing." "Unable to afford good help, and the growth it promises." "just can't"....!

Stop bullshitting yourself. Look for your entrepreneur, find him, get him to work.

You can be tough with yourself. You can invite your coach to get tough with you. But if it's time, then it's time.

I ran into a guy with a remarkable tie-clip. It said YCDABSOYA. I bit, asked what it meant.

He smiled.. "You can't do any business sitting on your ass!"

That's what I was doing, have done, probably will do again.

But right now, I've resurrected my entrepreneur, and I'm excited about what we'll be able to do together.

Entrepreneurs and small-business owners use me to create change.  Ah, Change!  It's the human capability we do best, and avoid most!  Of course, the trick is not only knowing what's holding you back, it's knowing who's holding you back!

If you've ever driven a vehicle with the handbrake on, you discover how wonderful professional business coaching can be.  When you release the handbrake, suddenly the car leaps ahead, performance and mileage improves, and the lousy smell stops!  Professional Business Coaching is sometimes just like that.  Other times, it is just hard, careful work.

My promise:  If you work with me you will think differently, take action, and your situation will improve.
