If this were a dream then things that make no sense would happen sometimes, and we would hardly question them. If this were a dream then things we’ve wondered about in our waking hours would manifest here in unexpected and quirky ways.

If this life were indeed a dream, we might know once and a while that we were sleeping, and be okay with that. If this were a dream, we would face those things most frightening to ourselves, and we would often wake before the worst occurred.

If this were truly a dream, then we could shift and change in an instant. We could grow older and younger at the drop of a hat. Sometimes we would drop a hat and it would fall atop our heads...

If this were truly a dream then we might walk quietly, not always seen by the others in our dream. If this were a dream then we would wonder little about this.

If this were a dream, we would make love in strange ways with people we don't even know. If this were a dream the friends and strangers before us might shift and change into some other people we also know.

If this were a dream, then the dead would live on, and we might cry when we see them and thank God for our vision. If this were a dream, we might forget they were dead.

If this were a dream, then we might fly frequently, or run like the wind. If this were a dream, we might look for castles and bejeweled spaces to cry in. If this were a dream, we might marry a pope, or be a part of her entourage.

If this were a dream, we might get pregnant a lot, or walk naked in public, or pee on the spot.

If this were a dream, we might want more sleep for another revisit. We might see on the same thing over and over, in a context that changes...

If this were a dream, we might parcel our questions into a collage of some answers that we don't even question.

If this were a dream, we might ride in the backseat or drive with no breaks.

If this were a dream, anything could happen, any wish fulfilled in surprisingly wonderful ways. If this was a dream, funny things might come together and make perfect sense.

If this were a dream, there would be only the one thing we could certainly predict: that we would be present in it, and that we would wake up.
