Tap Your Natural Motivation
What would it take for you to run a marathon? Or complete that project you've been putting off? What would it take for you to clear off your desk, or start your dream business? What might you accomplish if you knew that your every action had multiple and far-reaching positive results?
Whatever your goal (or albatross), today's idea is meant to assist you in attaining it by tapping your natural motivation to take daily action... and follow through to completion.
Most marathon runners I know, for instance, make their runs about more than speed and distance-- they choose charities or causes to run for. This serves as leverage and a powerful motivator. But if you really asked even a casual morning jogger what is motivating him/her move forward, they may tell you that secretly they run for world peace, a loved one, or a principal...
It is to this level I wish to direct your attention. A woman I know, for instance, runs for world peace, another for the happiness of a troubled relative. Still other people run for "principals" like freedom or persistence, or ideals like making the world a better place. This is not only nice, but a powerful way to insure that they keep going. More importantly it gives the runner enjoyment along the way.
Running is but one venue where this principal works. Most people realize that doing anything for their own personal victory can get them to start the "race," but rarely brings them to the finish. This is because as human beings, we are wired to be able to do more for others than we can for ourselves. Recognizing this, and utilizing it, is our natural motivation, and power and strength too.
So how can this principal energize your daily life? How can you use it to put yourself into movement right now?
Regardless of the task, the principal of "doing for" will empower and inspire action-- so choose something that really juices you to MOVE! Maybe ironing can be about smoothing the tough spots in a loved-one's life. Perhaps cleaning your desk can be a testament to the principal of simplicity. Maybe your housework can be about making the world a better place... Or getting in shape about shaping your community. What else would excite you to act? What else would make you feel good to take steps to that end?
So go ahead and try this: choose a task you've either dreaded, procrastinated, been afraid of, or simply must complete. Make it all about someone else... or something greater than yourself. Link up your thoughts and emotions with that greater goal.. and get moving on the 'smaller' one.
(you just may find yourself getting much more than you bargained for...)

Re: Finding AND Keeping Good People
- Employee retention or as you mention “Keeping the Good People” is one of the biggest challenges for any growing business. It takes a huge effort from the entrepreneur’s end.
I can come up with the following when it comes to KEEPing the good people-
1. Motivation of the employees
2. Recognition of the needs of the employees
3. Activities to make the employees feel valuable towards the organization
4. Make benefits more accessible
5. Offer profit sharing incentives
6. Create clear career paths at the company
7. Consider telecommuting, job sharing and other flexible working arrangements
8. Incentives are essential and they don't have to be huge
9. Have other managers praise an employee's work
10. Be sensitive to the balance between work and private life
Re: What Franchisors Want From Franchisees
- Kevin -
Here's a rough summary of your questions. Your credit score - below 600's and you're considered high risk. Best if you are in the high 600's and above... if you're in 700's you're golden.
Franchisers want to see people who can relate to other people. If you are very shy or you dislike working with the public, then this can count against you. Even if you can fake it... why would you bother? Great customer service is a benchmark any business owner should strive for...
Financing arrangements will vary - if you can show that you have 20% above all of your start-up costs, this would help. The more assets you own the better.
Motivation can be expressed in HOW you plan the start-up. It's all in the details. Are you taking the opportunity seriously? Are you learning and studying business attributes like marketing, salesmanship, and customer service? Demonstrate that you are motivated.
Subscribing to their system would be about following their rules. If you have a maverick mentality... then consider starting your own business where you make the rules... not a franchise.
Franchisers have different ways in how they evaluate their prospects. Your professional background or history can play an important role in the final evaluation.
This is really about common sense...
Re: Search Engine Optimization
- There are a great number of reasons a person can have difficulty with Google indexing there site. One of the most important aspects is doing initial keyword research properly. I'm amazed at how many times people will just pick a keyword phrase "they think makes the most sense" without doing the research to explore all of the windows of data. This does not take weeks and hours if you follow the guidelines in the book on this site I offer for free to Evan's members. It's called Wordtracker Magic 2.0 - Keyword Forensics for SEO.
Once you have 4 or 5 keyword phrases with fair search volume and the right window of opportunity, you will find it extremely easy to grab top visibility even with only mild optimization. This is one of the most stress free ways to grab organic top visibility and traffic, without the stress. It's been working for me since 1997.
Other easy tips. If you write sloppy copy you will will not get nearly as effective results as if you write very focused, useful and engaging content that readers will find helpful. Some people find writing harder than others. If you find it difficult personally, then chunk the process down into 2 steps.
Step 1. Write the content first. There should be a beginning a middle and an end. Write your content with the knowledge of which keyword phrase you are going to target - but do not worry about optimization or where the keywords go or character counts or anything technical (in this first step.) Write something and work on it for whatever time it needs for you to feel proud of the finished work. Don't forget to include a call to action near the end.
Step 2. Once the article is written and looking good, read it out loud to see how it flows. Next in the second step, just do a mild rewrite of the article for the SEO specs. One of the single most important things is not keyword density, but it's keyword proximity (meaning to use your phrase as a whole group of words together.)
By writing in this 2 step method, you will with practice, find that you are writing far higher quality because so many have trouble writing and optimizing at the same time. Why is high quality important? Google uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the background. For a number of years now, Google has been able to gather the context of a message.
You see it is no longer just the primary keyword phrase that is important (because it is all the entire body of supporting words other than the keyword phrase that matters including synonyms etc.)
In our workshops we teach significant in-depth studies in each of these areas plus more. Remember that if you are new to SEO focus on optimizing for just 1 keyword phrase per page and it will be much easier.
As to why your site may not be showing up in Google, it is difficult for me to say without seeing your site. But you might check to ensure you are using a Doctype tag at the top of the page and also the ISO character set tag must be there as they are required by Google for compliance. Google actually follows very closely to any guidelines set by the W3C org and you may want to brush up on Google Webmaster guidelines too, because things do change in there and they are a helpful resource.
These are just very basic tips, but if you follow them you can grab your traffic fairly easy without all the stress. If you visit my site, I have hundreds of free tips I can send you (just a tip a day but they are short, easy to understand and free.)
