The News

When something happens like the tragedy of yesterday, everything else falls into perspective.

As I thought about what I could say in this idea of the week that could even approach the significance of what we all are facing right now, I realized that no "self-help" strategy, tool or technique would be appropriate. But why not? After all, all of our lives are hugely significant, and global change has always been the result of empowered and passionate individuals.

The question is to what end the empowerment? and what kind of global change?

Since I began coaching, I have had one very specific purpose in mind: that of supporting good over evil. I know-- as we can all see now-- that individuals of great passion and purpose can change the very nature of nations. We have seen how they can do this through great hatred and destruction.

But where are the good people of equally great passion and purpose? What are they doing?

Perhaps some of them are reading this article.

Your life and passion do matter; and today, you are being called to see that they matter to more than just you. In fact, your most positive impulses aren't just about your life-- they are always for plans for the good of all of us.

Your creative impulses, your inspired ideas, your vision, your ability to connect, to appreciate, to communicate, to love-- are crucial. Not just for you in your life, but for all of us. We must tip the balance of 'passion in action' from that of destruction, to that of peace and creation.

There is too much power and strategy backing forces of destruction, and not enough peaceful people feeling empowered to act toward new solutions. This is true in the microcosm of our individual lives as well as the macrocosm of the world. Is there enough power and strategy backing you?

You bet there is.

Now is the time to put your passion into action. There is no one to give you permission to do so, or to cajole you, or to control your imagination. There is no cult leader or propaganda or media to brainwash you into significant action, like there is on the "darker side" of life. There is only the call for you to step up and do what your heart knows is right-- for yourself, and for the rest of us too. Don't wait for the help. You are the help.

Thank you.

Facebook and Beacon - What Do You Think Facebook and Beacon - What Do You Think - This landed in my inbox. Any thoughts???? Personally, I think they really overstepped the bounds of maintaining personal privacy with this one. Facebook Signals Changes With Beacon David A. Utter | Staff Writer The ringing outcry against Facebook Beacon, which posted people's online purchases to their friends' News Feeds, led to Facebook altering the program. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's aggressive move into referral advertising through the Beacon technology ran into a brick wall of user discontent. After days of complaints that spread throughout the media world, Facebook has changed their Beacon policies. "Users now have more control over the stories that get published to their Mini-Feed and potentially to their friends' News Feeds," the company said. Other details of the changes have been published in the Beacon FAQ available to Facebook members: "If you are logged in to Facebook and visit a Beacon Affiliate, an action you take (like writing a review or purchasing an item), may trigger that website to want to publish a story to Facebook. Before that happens, a notification will display in the lower right corner of your screen. If you click "No Thanks"...no stories or information will be published anywhere on Facebook. If you click "Close" or ignore the story, the story will be sent to Facebook, but not yet published." The previous version of Beacon would go ahead and publish details of a purchase or other conversion activity on a participating website directly to the Facebook user's Mini-Feed, which would then appear on the News Feeds of friends tracking that Mini-Feed. Some people complained that the notification appearing on a Beacon partner site of the pending publication did not appear. Facebook said people were leaving pages before the notification dialogue could be fully displayed, and they have changed the process to confirm the full notification has been shown to the person.
