The essence of the soft stuff

Written by: Allen Hatton

Article Overview: If you happen to have caught my interview on Maryland Public Television last week you would have heard Jeff Salkin, the interviewer ask me about the soft skills of leadership. A couple of things we talked about were empathy and listening. The question is how important are they and can they be learned. My answer to that is that they are extremely important to 21st century leadership and yes they can be learned. Last August I wrote about emotional intelligence and leadership and I want to follow up to that with additional information presented by Daniel Goleman, the nation’s leading authority on emotional intelligence.

The essence of the soft stuff

If you happen to have caught my interview on Maryland Public Television last week you would have heard Jeff Salkin, the interviewer ask me about the soft skills of leadership. If you don’t think this stuff is important --- I feel sorry for the people that work for you --- and I feel sorry for you because you’re not leading any where near as effectively as you could be. With that I’ll turn it over to Daniel Goleman.

Mary – I am going to have tapes made of the show so perhaps we can offer to send one out if someone is interested. We could make that available as an announcement. I am ready to be more shameless in my marketing. I have people come up to me all the time and tell me they read and enjoy my Gems, but I have not seen any business from it – so let’s cut loose!!!!

Re: Site promotion and Blogging Re: Site promotion and Blogging - [quote="darren":2cxm571n]If you are a online marketer, then blogging gives you a direct platform to contact with your customers, its like direct talk and much easier for promotion than newletters and ezines[/quote:2cxm571n] Hi Darren I disagree with this, I believe that a quality electronic newsletter with articles delivered straight to a customers inbox is better than a blog for making more sales and promoting your business. I say this because I never read blogs more than 1 or 2 days in a row (lack of time) but when I receive an electronic newsletter I'll usually read the entire newsletter (at a convenient time) and act on any soft promotions they have offered. If I was reading a blog and found any hints of selling or soft promotion, I'd leave instantly and I have done this before several times before. Most blogs I come across do not entertain or educate me as much as electronic newsletters do with articles.
Re: Hi I'm new here Re: Hi I'm new here - hi the world is getting smaller with internet, but the essence of group dynamics and participative management are breaking apart where people now feel that working alone and staying in contact through electronic gadgets is better way to get results.

Re: Laissez-faire! Re: Laissez-faire! - This also applies when outsourcing. When you find someone you trust, you can let that person do the creative stuff as well as the boring stuff and that way you save yourself even more time.
Re: 7 Top Blog Design Tips Re: 7 Top Blog Design Tips - Hi Tyrone You give some really good advice here. It is true that if a blog is crammed full of stuff, nine times in ten I will just go somewhere else rather than wade through too much stuff. MichelleJ
