Coaching Your Business To The Next Level Series Part 8 Work Life Balance

During the last several weeks, the six following tips have been offered from the original article Top 7 Tips to Avoid the Top 7 Mistakes that Small Business Owners Make. The other articles are:

The seventh tip for many is the most important because of the mistakes one through six.

Tip #7 - Keep balance between your personal and professional lives
Mistake: You are too busy to take the time with your family or friends. By attending to your work life balance as well as your personal and professional development, you will see incredible results happen within your business.

Through the executive coaching programs that I use with my clients, I have learned that for many a social life is running from one networking event or volunteer organization to another. In some cases, these dynamic and driven entrepreneurs have actually taken a part time job just for the social interaction.

A truly successful life is really a balance between our personal and professional lives. Think of your life as a wheel continually traveling down the road of life. If the wheel is balanced, the ride is smooth, but if the wheel is out of balance, the ride becomes very, very bumpy and consequently quite uncomfortable. Then our life begins to suffer.

Now is the time to assess yourself. Take a piece of paper and draw a fairly large circle. Divide the circle in half and then in quarters and then into eighths. Think of this as a clock and in the area near one-oclock write the word Career. Going clockwise fill in the next spaces as follows:

Family
Purpose/Passion
Mental
Financial
Social
Spiritual/Ethics
Physical

This is just one example as there are many Life Wheels. What makes this one somewhat unique, is there is a counter balances within the wheel. For example, Career is counter balanced against Financial and Mental is opposite Physical. What I have learned in working with my small business owners and business executives is that keeping balance within the wheel is important and what may throw off that balance is two related areas.

For example, to continually keep up with business, the entrepreneur may spend hours reading and improving her mental development. However, in doing so, her physical development or health suffers. Or, the executive uses business social events and forgets about family events.

This is why counterbalance is critical to the over all balance of the Life Wheel

As mentioned before, these 7 tips will help catapult your small business in warp time. Of course, if you like where you are now, then ignore these tips. However, can you be sure your competition will also ignore these tips? And what would happen, if they just implemented one tip less alone all 7?

Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
2 Forums Updates - Many of you have been writing in suggesting that on my website and in my newsletter we include the link to the actual forum post and not just the name of the post and a link to the Forums home page. Well, after looking into it I'm pleased to announce that this feature is now available. Thank you everyone for the suggestions! We've also added names for members based on how much they post. Level one is Newbie, Level 2 is Intern, Level 3 is Employee and so on... There are 10 levels in total. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone does! Keep the suggestions coming - they are great!

The Second Life Platform - Greetings! I'm not sure how many of you have heard of or are sensitive to Second Life and its related entities. However, Second Life is a fantastic platform to mimmick real life business operations in a real currency based economy. There are plenty of successful stories for creative individuals, but I'd highly suggest doing your research and appreciating Second Life for what it is, and what it isn't.
