Fear of Success Keeps Many From Traveling the Road to Success

Fear of Success Keeps Many From Traveling the Road to Success

Take a moment to travel back in time to your elementary, junior high, high school and college or post secondary experience days. Remember what happened when you knew the answer? You wanted to raise your hand, but earlier experiences such as:

1. The teasing by fellow classmates about being the teacher’s pet or the know-it-all or the brown-noser
2. The chance that maybe once again you might not know the correct answer
3. The possibility that your best friends might laugh at your answer whether it was right or wrong

all kept you from lifting your hand for everyone to see.

Consequently what happened is that a fear developed inside of you. From my perspective, this is the earliest origin for the fear of success. From this experience other words were added and created self-doubt questions like:

1.Remember what happened last time?
2.Do you really want to sound stupid?
3.Are you sure you know the answer?

The fear of success continued to grow and grow over the years. For you realized that you were comfortable in the "Land of Fear" and crossing the "Desert of the What If" into the "Land of Success" was just too much to risk. Let others take the risk and I will watch from the sidelines you said to yourself. Next you found yourself complaining about how easy the successful people have had it and how hard it has been for yourself.

As your fear of success grew, so did your brain noise or negative self-talk. You found solace in the Weasel Words of Life such as:

Would of
Could of
Think
Maybe
Might
Will
But

These words bolstered your own resolve not to attempt a crossing because there was always that "Desert of What If." This desert is full of not only more weasel words, but even more False Evidence Appearing Real. Now you have truly become a victim of your own circumstance and readily share your terrible life with anyone else who will listen. And, you aren’t happy until everyone is on your side agreeing with your wretched life. NOTE: You have total control of your destiny because you are controlling 100% of all of your actions and reactions to the opportunities to the laws of success.

Years ago, Napoleon Hill wrote success comes to those who "become success conscious." By having a fear of success, you have changed your thoughts to expect failure instead of expecting success. Hill understood that to master success begins with our thoughts and we can "think and grow rich."
