How to Win More Sales Is by Knowing Where to Find the Best Help

The down economy has a lot of sales professionals and small business owners scrambling to increase sales. Within my business coaching training practice, I hear a lot of sales people make statements as:

1. I hope sales get better.
2. I been calling everyone I know to help me increase sales.
3. I have been praying that the economy improves.

Yet, if the goal is to win more sales, these statements will probably will not get you to your goal to increase sales. In fact, they will probably drive sales away.

Aesop, the master fable teller, recognized how many individuals seek outside help first instead of help from within in his fable the Carter and Hercules.

The Story
A CARTER (driver of carts or a hauler of garbage) was driving a wagon along a country lane marked with deep ruts. As luck would have it, one of the wheels sank down deep in a rut. The driver stood looking at the wheel. He was stymied and did not know what to do. So, he began crying to Hercules (the god of strength) to come help him out of this very bad situation. Hercules heard his cries and appeared before him with these words: "Put your shoulders to the wheels. Push from your legs. Do whatever you can do. Never again call to me until you have done your best to help yourself. For if you do not help yourself first, your calls will be in vain."

Sales Coaching Tip Lesson Learned: Self-help is the best help.

Having a pity party is far easier than looking within to take action. Many sales professionals fail to look to at their selves for help; instead they seek outside intervention or blame others for their inability to increase sales.

In sales, you are your own worst enemy. Your beliefs as illustrated by the Carter in Aesop’s fable drive the actions that being sitting and having a poor me party creating the results or in this case lack of results. Until you do everything that you need to do, then and only then, should you ask for help from some outside force.

Within my business coaching training practice, I have spoken to many consultants who wish to help young people through an innovative student leadership process. What amazed me is that well over 90% of these individuals never bothered to open the curriculum before attending the workshop. They expected me to be their Hercules in order for them to increase sales.

There are plenty of sales web sites, sales books and even self-help sites and books. All you must do is to take action if you truly want to win more sales.
