Increase Sales By Just Eating More Frogs
To increase sales means that you must begin to leave your comfort zone and start doing things that you probably do not want to do. To get things done, maybe now is the time to listen to the words of that famous American philosopher, humorist and satirist, Mark Twain. He said: “If you eat a frog first thing in the morning, the rest of your day will be wonderful. Essentially what Mr. Twain was implying is that by doing those tasks we dislike the most, first, then the rest of the day is a downhill slide.
Now what would happen if you took Mr. Twain’s advice and applied these wise words figuratively to your daily sales actions? What actions do you truly dislike to do first thing each business morning?
1.Cold call first?
2.Follow-up on last yesterday’s leads?
3.Listen to that pod-cast?
4.Write 5 thank you notes?
5.Research a new qualified potential customer?
6.Speak with a business coach or sales coach?
Now that you have “eaten the frog,” so to speak, what would the rest of your day look like?
1.Make additional follow-up phone calls?
2.More time for coffee with a qualified potential customer?
3.Less stress because the hard stuff has been tackled?
To often in sales as in life, individuals focus on doing the easy stuff first. The hard stuff, the stuff that usually creates the results, begins to pile up into higher and higher piles. Soon, all of this stuff has created an enormous elephant in the room.
What is interesting to note is that simple actions such as making cold calls to following up are the actions that deliver more sales results than any other sales behaviors. However, sales research reveals that far too many sales professionals are not eating the frogs because:
1.Almost 50% of all leads are not followed up
2.Most sales are made between the 5th and 12th contacts
If you want to increase sales, then determine what frogs you must eat every morning. Monitor your results. Who knows, you may actually begin to enjoy eating all of those frogs?
