Leave the Island of Ain’t It Awful to Increase Sales

Are you, as the sales professional, stranded on the Island of "Ain't It Awful" as coined by a colleague of mine, Doug Brown? Well, who wouldn't be after fighting all those storms of doom and gloom. The rays of hope and better days ahead are obscured from those dark clouds of misery and suffering. Will the sun of good times (economic prosperity for me) even shine again? Sales Coaching Tip: You have 100% of the thoughts that you keep in your brain and those that you let out.

First, the sun of good times is always shining. The challenge is that you cannot see it because your beliefs about "Ain't it Awful" are clouding your mind. These clouded thoughts are keeping you from taking action to increase sales by leaving this desolate, but very crowded island. Sales Coaching Tip: Misery loves company. Some of your colleagues will actually attempt to keep you on this island because they do not want to do what they need to do. You will need to be strong mentally and physically.

Did you know that research suggests that more millionaires are created during bad economic times? Why? Because these are the folks who believe in slow and steady wins the race. Remember, the Aesop Fable about the tortoise and the hare? When life is good and easy, sales professionals run ahead, much life the hare and then begin to ease off consistently employing their sales skills. Then when bad times come, they are literally behind the finish line because they failed to follow their plans and achieve their goals consistently.

Many business owners and executives that I have spoken to believe that behaviors of the media and government have been far more responsible in creating the current economic situation. These folks are aware of the situation, but rather than embrace the herd mentality of “ain’t it awful” they are continuing to call on customers, help their customers and work on achieving their sales current goals. Sales Coaching Tip: Do not "confuse motion with progress and activity with results" (Doug Brown) if you wish to increase sales.

If you are living on the island of "Ain't It Awful," you probably landed there along with a lot of other sales professionals through the efforts of "Captain Wing It" of Fly High Airlines, your sometimes on time on course on purpose airline (courtesy of Bill Napolitano). Now more than ever you need to chart a course (file an action plan), establish sales goals to productivity goals and reinforce your commitment through positive affirmation statements or what I prefer calling them belief statements and continue to improve your sales skills.

Yes, you, as the sales professional, can leave the island of "Ain't It Awful" simply by changing your thoughts and you can stay off that depressing place by your focused, goal driven actions. The choice as always is yours and yours alone.

Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional - Hi Evan, I am noticing that many of the posts in the Sales/Marketing section deal with online marketing, SEM and and SEO and Affiliates. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to separate that section into two; 1) Online Sales and Marketing; 2) Traditional Sales and Marketing

Re: Twitter Censorship? Re: Twitter Censorship? - I haven't heard that but it wouldn't surprise me. Seems like there are people/governments/sites all over the place trying to get internet censorship. Personally I think it's a bad idea. Once you open that can of worms then where does it stop? Leave it be and see what it can truly grow into!

Re: How should i promote a new website? Re: How should i promote a new website? - I forgot to mention another good one. Leave you business cards (with your website on it) in public places that you go. Even in bathrooms on the sink or on top of the hand blow dryer. People are curious as to what it might say. Also make sure you put something on it that will tell them what you sell. Not just the name of your business.
