Time Management Must Be Connected to Your Goals
Time management is an essential skill in today’s workplace where less people are demanded to do more work. Yet, what I have learned is that many people who have taken time management training must retake or redo this sometimes expensive training.
My belief is that most time management training courses fail to connect time management with goal setting. For without goals, why would you care that you are at any place on time or that a project must be done.
Think of the simple pyramid. Envision the top quarter of this geometrical shape to be time management and the bottom three quarters to be all of the supporting goals. Now take away the goals and what happens. The top crashes down. Does this sound like what might have possibly happened to you?
Zig Ziglar was one of the first to use the SMART criteria for goal setting. These criteria helped individuals to write effective goal statement that could be much easier achieved. The T stood for target date or what I also share with my business coaching clients time driven.
For without time connected to the goal, the goal becomes much like one of those repetitive New Year resolutions that show up every year and disappear within 60 days only to reappear the next year.
So if you truly want to maximize your training and development dollars whether you are a small business owner, a real estate agent, a sales professional, a HR manager or even a C-Level executive, then take the time to find a time management course that connects time management to a proven goal setting and goal achievement process.
By taking such action, you will save yourself a lot of time not to mention money.
