Validation A Necessary Skill for Business and Personal Success

Living and working in today’s hectic world creates confusion, misdirection, lack of focus, poor results, high stress levels and a multitude of other ills. Yet, if we just stop for a moment to take a deep breath and become more aware of our own personal needs and the professional needs of others, amazing outcomes are possible.

By becoming more aware we are open to validating who we are, what we have achieved and how we can help others. The process of validation is an action that is overlooked by many. This oversight potentially causes us to become more susceptible to the never-ending forces of negativity that shake our "foundation" for success. These forces create insidious cracks in our foundation. As these cracks become deeper and wider, we in turn become more negative and self-absorb with the inconveniences of life. We continually focus on problems instead of opportunities.

However, by embracing an attitude of validation where we acknowledge whom we are, what our needs are and the actions necessary to reach our dreams and goals, we can repair these cracks. This attitude works to overcome years of negative conditioning where our center of attention has been on our weaknesses and failures instead of our strengths and successes.

How many people do you know who will hold on to misery over joy? These individuals continually look to what is going to go wrong. They become overwhelmed by f.e.a.r.s. (false evidence appearing real) and drown in a sea of misery instead of seeing those opportunities and swimming in the sea of potential. Since this behavior is with these unaware, non-validating individuals 24 hours 7 days a week, they demean and diminish the success of others. In the business world, many of us have observed managers who berate their employees to secure greater results. We can almost equate these same individuals to teenagers or young children who potentially seized similar occasions to "bully" others.

Embracing an attitude of validation also means that we understand the "boundaries" for our own selves. Boundaries are those personal limits where when crossed violate our own values or the values of others. When we recognize the importance of validation, we also build a higher level of emotional intelligence or EQ. Research continues to suggest that individuals with higher levels of EQ are better leaders and reach greater heights of success.

By acknowledging validation for others with phrases such as "How do you feel about…?" or "I can hear that you are very upset," allows you to empathize and actively listen to their responses. Your action of validation demonstrates your sincere interest in them and provides opportunities to grow beyond the present situation.

Validation is an acquired skill. By becoming more aware of our environment, being more attentive and present and learning to truly listen to ourselves and to others, we can develop this necessary skill. We, then, can proactively drive our businesses and ourselves to that next level of success.
