Stop Fooling Around and Start to Play

I realize the above headline sounds strange but if you think about it, the highest paid individuals in our society do just that. They go play each day. No one "works" baseball, football, hockey or golf. Actors earn huge sums of money for "playing" a part in a movie or play. Even in the so called serious world of business, the people who earn the most understand that they're just playing the game of business.

Which makes you feel better, going to work or play? I'm guessing it's the latter. If you think back to your childhood, what were the messages you received about going to work? While this may simply seem like a play on words (pun intended) how you perceive your business really does make a difference and can have a huge impact on your results.

Do you fearfully approach your daily tasks, struggling along, hoping you get lucky and produce the result you are looking for or do you joyously greet each new day as an opportunity to meet new people, deliver a valuable service and have lots of fun?

You've heard the phrase, "Success is a journey, not a destination." Successful people have found ways to make their business seem like play. I'm not suggesting that you goof off and shirk your responsibilities. Quite the opposite. I'm suggesting that you find ways to gain so much pleasure from what you're doing and make it so much fun that you can't wait to get to it each day. By doing this, you will create a joyous atmosphere that will act like a magnet and draw success to you. If you doubt this, just look at the most successful people around you. It's as if their success is chasing them.

As an independent business owner, you are in control of how you approach your business. Rather than go through the motions of doing the same things day after day, ask yourself how you can accomplish your daily tasks with fun and joy. What actions could you take, right now, that would seem more like play than work? Instead of doing certain things because it's what you're "supposed to do," ask, "What would be the most playful, joyful and fun activity I could do in my business today?" For example, you might have a client meeting in a pleasant café instead of a dull conference room, have your team's next brainstorming session in the park, or write your proposal at the zoo or beach. Continually ask yourself how you can have even more fun while moving toward your goals.

By shifting the way in which you approach your business, you will open yourself to more inspired actions. You will produce greater results, feel better about what you're doing, have more fun along the way, and reach your goals faster and easier than you ever thought possible. The more fun you have, the more successful you will become, so why not go out and play?

How does one suggest improvements to inventions How does one suggest improvements to inventions - and get paid for them? I'm sure people write in and complain and suggest new features for various things they buy... and if those changes are implemented that's all well and good, but the person who made the suggestion for the improvment isn't going to get paid for it. How does one suggest these improvements - and get paid for them? ----long story One of the best things the PC did (at least, Dell) was to color code all their little plugs, so you know that the green plug goes into the green hole, the pink into the pink, etc. Makes setting up those things a heckuva lot easier! I was thinking that the same thing should be done for today's TVs! I've had a new TV for a few weeks, set up next to my computer because I like to work and watch TV at the same time. But I've got it set up in such a way that I can't see all the little buttons on the top of the screen, which are the buttons for Stop, Play, Eject (for the internal DVD) , the Volume up and down, and the Channel up and down. Of course, that wasn't a problem when my remote control worked, but for some reason it stopped working a couple of weeks ago. (Yes, I replaced the battery - no good). Since I have the TV so close to my computer it's no problem, I can reach out and touch the buttons... But because they're all the same color, I had to actually get up and look at them to make sure I was pressing the right button. I've solved that problem by attaching a bit of yellow paper to the Play button, and a bit of orange paper to the Volume Up button. Makes things a lot easier...
Willing to Fail Your Way to Success Willing to Fail Your Way to Success - Entrepreneurs in my opinion, must be willing to fail. (This is that risk-taking factor quoted in the other post). If you aren't willing to fail then you don't take risks and if you don't take risks you do I like to call (I am qouting an awesome book called Play to Win!) 'Playing Not to Lose' instead of 'Playing to Win'. When you Play to Win you must risks. Risks are how you build a business and innovate.
Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? - [quote="GT Bulmer":10b1rb6o]sounds like keeping one foot on the dock and one in the boat, doesn't it?) I've had suggestions of interest from other high profile potential clients but I have chosen not to pursue them at this time.[/quote:10b1rb6o] Hi GT, Who knows, perhaps you'll need to take that leap of faith and "burn your bridges" (of escape/going back) like Dale Carnegie suggests in "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" to get to the next level and reach your income goal. Complacency and comfort can be death.
