The Enlightened Way to Wealth and Success
There is a idea discussed in the book One Minute Millionaire, a wonderful and empowering book by Mark Victor Hansen of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and Robert Allen, author of Multiple Streams of Income and several other best-selling books. Their premise is something they call an Enlightened Millionaire.
As I read and reread this book I found myself thinking more and more about their idea of enlightened wealth. In their description an Enlightened Millionaire is one who
believes in abundance; creates massive value in everything they do; gives back to their community; leaves a lasting legacy.
Let’s take a closer look at each of these characteristics. Believes in an abundant world. If we understand that we live in a world of total abundance and adhere to this principal we will, in fact, attract what we desire. Religion and psychology teach us, and most people will agree, “As you think, so you are.” We will begin looking for the win-win in everything we do and, as a result, develop better relationships and long lasting success.
On the other hand, individuals who believe in luck as a result of those beliefs envision a “dog eat dog world” in which one has to grab what they can. Often, they become one of those “endarkened” individuals, many of whom are now, appropriately, in jail.
The second characteristic Creating massive value in everything that you do establishes, in business, that you are exceeding your customer’s expectations, again resulting in more success to you. It has been said that, “Money is a measure of your service. If you want more money, give more service.” This makes sense if you think about it. If you patronize a business and receive exceptional value and service, chances are you will continue to do business with them and refer others to that company.
The enlightened businessperson gives back to their community. Imagine if you will, having lots of very successful businesses in your area, all tithing ten percent or more of their income back to the community. Imagine the awesome power to do good right in your own community and beyond.
All religions teach the principal of tithing and that, “As you give you will receive.” I personally find it interesting that the most successful business owners that I know are by no small coincidence the greatest givers in the community.
Lastly, leaving a legacy is probably the most any of us can strive for in this life. As author Wayne Dyer pointed out, “We are here to serve. The proof of that is the fact that when we leave, we take nothing with us.” There is an old story about the teacher who asked, “Do you know how much money J. Paul Getty left when he died? The answer, “All of it!”
If we can learn to recognize, appreciate and give thanks for all the abundance we have in our lives, consistently work to add more value to our customers, share our good fortune with others and leave a legacy that will continue after we’re gone, we’ll not only be more successful as business people, but, more importantly, we will have lived a life of significance.
