Are you losing your focus?
Are you losing your focus?
I am coaching two clients who are both in the process of establishing new businesses. The first was keen to develop her marketing strategy by seeking out new clients and exploring new markets.
At the second coaching session she had not made any progress. She was procrastinating. She was busy surfing the net, or organising her diary. She was lost in trivial tasks, and constantly finding excuses for not “getting out there”.
I refocused her by asking the question, “What do you need to do to move the business forward?”
My second client had an established customer base. But she was overwhelmed by all her contacts, and was losing focus. She needed to take a step back in order to prioritise.
Generally, we find short-term goals easier to focus on, rather than the big picture. In this case, giving full attention and service to her top ten clients was the key.
These two clients are not unique in their experiences. For most of us, taking the next step in order to grow is very challenging. We all procrastinate before we move out of our comfort zone.
We fear rejection, and yet, once we have taken that first step, often we are surprised by the outcome. If we have a positive attitude about the product or service we are offering, we are able to get out there and create that niche market.
I asked the second client, “How can you focus your attention on this problem to achieve a positive result?” Her answer was to make herself accountable. “If I tell some key people in my life what my goals are, then I have to achieve them.” Developing positive partnerships can give us encouragement to take those first steps.
Focus on your goal, then work out what steps you need to take to get there. Maybe making daily lists will help you prioritise. It is too easy to make excuses for not getting started. As a coach I will challenge you at subsequent sessions to be accountable for your inactivity.
Through my coaching I empower you to identify the most effective way of finding your goal. I help you articulate your aim. I teach you to focus.
But it is your goal. You alone can reach it.

Leanne Hoagland-SmithAre your sales where you want them to be? Will you be one of the few who achieves sales or business success or one of the many who have failed to change? Are you tired of being told you are like everyone else? Then you may find my first book on sales of interest. Be the Red Jacket in the Sea of Gray Suits, The Keys to Unlocking Sales available at Amazon or at http://www.processspecialist.com/red-jacket.htm. This book is a reflection of my no-nonsense approach to improving sales to overall business results. If you are truly committed to making sustainable changes, then I can help you secure a positive return on your investment because I focus on executable solutions not telling you the problems you already know you have. From training to corporate (group) coaching to executive one on one coaching, my approach is to assess, create awareness, build a goal driven action plan and then execute. The bottom line question is "Not do you or your employees know it, but do you or they want to do it?"
