Green is the new black!

Article Overview: Challenge yourself this year! Set yourself some new and exciting goals. Take off your blinkers, and look at what is happening in the wider world. Then see what you can do in your business to make a difference in 2008. Thinking “green”, being sustainable, and looking after the environment are the buzz issues at the moment in business. Some of my clients have already embraced these initiatives. One of them has set up “The Green Police” – a project whereby some staff members are responsible for overseeing all the green waste in the organisation. Another has just set his employees the goal of making the business more sustainable in 2008 by cutting their use of electricity and paper at work.

There is a lot of help out there. Councils run workshops on how to manage water and waste, and how to reduce electricity consumption by using energy efficient devices. They give you tips to recycle effectively. Link:

Private companies provide packages which you can adopt to make your business “go green” and save money. If we can help the environment and save money everyone is a winner! Link:

What about your personal goals? When was the last time you took yourself off for some professional development? If it was more than two years ago you may be in danger of losing your competitive edge. Keep your eye on what is happening outside your business. It becomes a useful bench mark to ensure you are offering a quality service, which is relevant.

Her research techniques are spot on, and she excels at time management, having juggled study with part time work and maintaining a healthy life style.

If you haven’t done it already, sit down and make a list of goals for 2008. Note any gaps in your own skill set. Then get out there and make a difference.

There is a Chinese Proverb: “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” However great the goal is, by taking the first, small step you make an important beginning.

Re: Government Grants; sources and experiences Re: Government Grants; sources and experiences - Government Grant in South Africa is very easy as long as you are black. There is a programme called BEE which is black empowerment for the black people. If you have a good business plan and you are blacks the government will fund your project
Re: 10 ideas to make you money in 2010 Re: 10 ideas to make you money in 2010 - I think Education would be hard to break into. Baby Boomers, Life Support and Trading Down, however, seem like good markets. As for Green technology goes, I don't think the business has to be entirely based on Green ideologies, but rather a business that embrace Green philosophies and use that as a marketing tool.
Printers Printers - Here's another thing that annoys me. I've got an Epson CX6600 inkjet printer. Great little thing, prints photos and stuff crystal clear. Comes with four ink cartrdiges, black, and then cyan, magenta and yellow. And if any of those cartridges run out, you can't print until you put in a new one. So for the last week my magenta has been at 20%, and then at 10%, despite the fact I've only been printing in black and white. And now today it has run out - despite the fact that I haven't used that color for over 2 weeks! And all I want to do is print a black and white document so it shouldn't matter at all that I have no yellow... yellow doesn't come into the equation! But, nope, can't print. Some insidious or machiavellian plot to make people have to buy ink cartridges even if they don't want/shouldn't need them. I'm feeling really chapped!
Choice of Logos Choice of Logos - Hi Mark, I prefer the middle one as the main version, with white lettering and yellow dots. The others can be variations for use when the middle one is not as readable, or too expensive for multicolour printing. To me the middle one is the strongest, although it is not as extreme as the one with the black letters. I consider the one with the black lettering to be the most aggressive version. Use all three, each one where most appropriate because of target audience or cost. Andreas
Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? - Hum... a lot of reds responding... Business owners must be a very aggressive community. Now, I was surprised when I took the course personally to find out I was a Green, secondary Blue. Of course, not believing this, the first thing I did was turn to those around me to get their opinions on my colours (typical Green!). The only thing I can really say about STRUCTOGRAM is that it was fun to explore the depths of my social and physiological make-up... I did this a over a year ago now and still use it in my daily interactions (always be on your toes with Reds).
