The digital clock on the wall flashes red. You look up, and realise that it’s seven o’ clock and another hour has gone by. And you are still at the office! Was that you yesterday? And the day before?

When was the last time you took a good long look at your work practices? Are you getting the work-life balance right? You may be trying to steer your team through the rough waters of change, but working excessive hours is not the solution.

Long hours and unreasonable demands made on your staff will lead to a reduction in productivity, to sickness, and to a general loss of moral. As a manager responsible for the well being of your staff, make sure you have set them realistic targets, and encourage them to prioritise.

Helen is a highly-paid professional with a young family. She works five days a week, but makes sure that she is always home in good time to share with her family. She employs a cleaner, and does all her shopping on-line. When she is with her children she devotes herself to them, and focuses on quality time. Helen is successful in juggling all her commitments, because she has prioritised, and has made judgements about what is most important in her life.

When you are leading others, it is rare for someone to give you the recognition you deserve, and to offer you encouragement. That is why it is vital to reward yourself. Use the time driving home to reflect on how productive you have been, and what you have achieved. By the time you reach home you should have dumped all your work issues, and be ready to relax properly, and to re-energise yourself.

There is a new breed of managers and CEOs who recognise the importance of maintaining their staff’s well-being. The positive results being produced is evidence that it works!

I was asked what I do to relax, and to ensure that I have head space. I moved to the beach deliberately so I could be in an environment which nurtures my soul. I have fun with my children; I meet with friends and have a laugh; I go to the gym. I schedule time into my weekly work routine to do something I know will refresh me.

We are real people, with different needs. We all must learn to manage in our own manner, in a way which is best suited to our particular circumstances. But I guarantee you, create this balance, find this space, and you will be successful at work and at play.

Re: New Twitter Backgrond - thoughts? Re: New Twitter Backgrond - thoughts? - Hi Evan, I love the idea of using the EvanCarmichael's background on the left. I have no issues with FireFox on my PC, but at work I use IE8 and the main page is hiding the sidebar. But this is the problem with Twitter, it can look fine on one PC and not so fine on others, depend on the browser and computer resolution.
Re: skribit - new forum feature Re: skribit - new forum feature - [quote="Evan":2253z7x3]It looks fine on my IE - is anyone else having problems?[/quote:2253z7x3] On my laptop, also running IE, it also looks fine. My desktop computer is several years old and I've never bothered to upgrade the IE, so I suppose I might be the only one who sees it "off".
Re: Tactics for Blog Traffic Re: Tactics for Blog Traffic - these are fine. Do you think link submitter is a good one? I have used for directory submission, but the links are automatically trimmed from the directories after certain months. It is a good strategy to have one-way traffic, but I doubt about its sustainability of links at these directories. What do you think? The pinging sites looks fine. But, everytime we need to do a manual pinging. I have a wordpress blog and has choosen pingomatic for pinging. But I somehow feel it is not pinging the blogs automatically. Is there any plugin in WP, which does automatic pinging services? Thanks, Robert
niche forum categories niche forum categories - I think Kevin just touched on the point that I was going make... and that is developing 'categories' that stick. Sales and Marketing may be too broad for example. However I can almost guarantee you that you would see many more sign-ups if you tailored a category to 'internet marketing' for newbies. I've seen this work on other forums, however, [i:1i903wkn]it can get a little frantic[/i:1i903wkn]... Fine tuning the categories, or expanding the scope should be effective. I think a lot of IM folks are surfing right on by because they're not finding what they're looking for here... Just a few thoughts: Better Blogging Developing Info Products Internet Marketing Presentation Skills More How to's Another point is... a lot of people don't know that they can benefit from participating in forums. The signature links to their site - if they have one - can / should be motivation enough to get more involved. The more internet savvy members that have signatures seem to stick around more... Don't you think?
