Take the plunge!

Take the plunge!

Spring is here! It’s time to take a broom, and sweep away all the clutter and detritus of winter! Make a fresh start! Focus on what you really want to do. Don’t use any more excuses!

Often, a lack of confidence in your own abilities holds you back. It stops you reaching for what you really want, and encourages you to settle for second best. You decide to test the water first, and get used to the temperature gradually. You paddle, but you do not take that plunge.

What you are actually doing is denying yourself the opportunity to realize your passion. The path ahead appears fraught with complications, so you ignore it, and take the easier way.

Perhaps I can help here. Together, we can identify your ultimate goal. I can ask the right questions to help you set your feet along the road meant for you.

I have worked with many students, either in their last years at school, or those at university. They come to me when they realize they have made the wrong decision for their career choice, or have picked the wrong university course.

They have been pressured, either by their peers or their family, into following a line of study which is not really for them. Their passion is elsewhere, but a fear of letting someone down, or of standing alone, prevents them from being honest with themselves. As students they are often young, and vulnerable.

Take Chris. He followed in his father’s footsteps when he went to university to read law. However, he was passionate about English, and drama, and hated the methodology and precision required for law. His first year results showed this. Still, he was unable to admit that he was doing law to please his father.

At the end of his second year he came to me. Together we identified what he really wanted to do. Once the clarity of direction was there, we worked on ways to achieve this. Chris spoke honestly with his father. He changed courses, and is now studying a subject he loves.

The drive and passion is there within you. It sometimes takes a coach to tease out the direction in which you should go. Once the goal has been identified, a belief in yourself is all you need to get started.

I believe in you. Your job is to nurture this newfound confidence and be true to yourself.

Business or busy-ness !! - Ideally your business is should be able to let go of you after breakeven and a reasonable period of time. Keeping you in chains would qualify it to be busy-ness rather than business. Once set the business systems set should be able to run on auto pilot with you co-ordinating activity rather than you running the activity. If you are at ease with this thought - you could go ahead and think of the second in line. Not too difficult though takes some tact and some practice before you could take the plunge....
Hostgator for Me. - I recently took the plunge to get space so that I could have as many sites as I wanted - at no extra charge. It was a whole new world of FTP as I'd had a site package in the past. Hostgator have been all I needed, their LiveHelp works well and they have some dinky little videos to help idiots like me who are starting afresh. I like them and they are pretty cheap - I think I pay $14.94 a month for all this. They were even generous to me when I wanted to know why my website wasn't working and I didn't realize that I had to make the link between the domain registrant (oops Registerfly ;-())) and my FTP upload!
TypePad reviews please! - Hi everybody! I've been looking at Typepad.com recently as part of my ongoing researches. At the moment I use Blogger.com (both remote and self-hosting blogs) and Wordpress.org (self-hosting), but I must admit I like the look of Typepad and would be willing to pay for the professional service. I've read about the pros and cons of the various services and am attracted to the Typepad model, but before I take the plunge... I wonder if anybody has any experience of using Typepad, and if so, I'd like to read your comments on this thread. Thanks! David H

[/quote:3iervw6d] Seems to me that this is what angel investors are needed for. If you have a good business plan, and if you think your shop willl work, why not let your friend invest in it? If there's a chance of it failing...[i:3iervw6d]you [/i:3iervw6d]shouldn't be starting it to begin with. As I'm sure you know, most businesses fail because of a lack of cash flow in the early years. Explain to your friend about this, show him all the books, and if he still wants to go ahead...let him!
