The power of one – amongst all

“Inclusivity is recognising that my life, my fate, my future is inextricably linked to yours.” Sharif Abdullah.

I have just returned from the International Coach Federation Australasian Conference in Melbourne. The guest speaker was Sharif Abdullah who was truly inspirational. His philosophy mirrors a lot of what I do already, but I know I can do so much more.

The theme of the conference was Creating the Future Today. We were urged to “think BIG and to use our skills to address BIG issues such as sustainable resources, social inequalities and global disharmony.”

You can do this with your business today. Think inclusive - everything you do must have a positive impact on each member of your organisation. Look at the bigger picture. Make sure that the overall direction of the business, whilst still profitable and successful, is also focused on what is good for humanity as a whole.

Take responsibility for what happens in the wider world. Don’t look to blame without, but look within. Become a role model. As soon as you put your vision in motion, and change your attitude, you begin to raise awareness in others.

Become the first small voice of change. Speak up. Emphasise what is important and how, together, you can make a difference. “Let's remember we are all in this together - we are all citizens of planet earth .... your vision for your business must begin with the end in mind.” Sharif Abdullah.

Seek to change from within an organisation. Don’t become polarised or aggressive in your stance – this never wins anyone over. Keep needling away and you will bring people around to your point of view. For instance, how long did it take your family to become water conscious? Maybe it started with you turning off the tap when you were cleaning your teeth, or putting a bucket in the shower. Soon, it becomes natural behaviour which the rest of the family adopt.

Companies are becoming more sustainable. They start by switching off lights in unused rooms, or turning the heating down by one degree. Gradually, each staff member follows this example, and it becomes common practice.

When we have one voice and shared values we are inclusive. We have the power to change the attitudes of local, state and even federal governments.

As Sharif Abdullah said, “If you drive your car as if everyone around you was your best friend, then attitudes will change.”

Women Entrepreneur Tips Women Entrepreneur Tips - Thank you LeoOliveros, I found #4 particularly true in my case: 4. The Enterprise Must Include the Power of Power Networks. As a conductor of your own enterprise, you can not see yourself as a one-woman-show. You must choose to utilize the power people in your life, by asking for help when you need it, and effectively delegating in order to capitalize on your strengths and that of your power network. When certain experts are not represented in your power network, you must actively seek advisors or mentors and develop a team of specialists, so the benefits are received by everyone involved in the power network - the true Power of Power Networks.
Psychics & horoscopes! Psychics & horoscopes! - I have never sought the help of a psychic and I deffinately do not believe in horoscopes. Although I do believe "some" psychics could hold a special gift (like the ones that help police) occassionaly, but horoscopes are not believable in my book. I I believe the power of suggestion (reading a horoscope) is the real power there. You read or hear how things should go for you and the power of that suggestion could make it happen. Your mind believes it will happen, so it does. It's Sort of like how if you fully believe you are sick (when you are not), your body reacts as if it really is, therefore developing symptoms.
Hello to the forum Hello to the forum - Hi everyone nice to be here, I found a link to this forum whilst looking around another forum and fancied a look, liked what I saw and joined. I'm newer than new and at my age to say that is refreshing to say the least! 25 years of working in pipeline construction has taken me all over the place and now it's time to seek another venue. At present I'm stuck in England but have a home in the Philippines, Panglao Island, Bohol Province to be exact, My partner Marilyn is there looking after our little business and my young kids. I hope to learn from the gurus of this forum and pass on whatever info I learn to my future followers. I welcome all advice no matter how trivial it may seem, as to my mind knowledge is power - power is revenue - revenue is a means to an end. Thanks everyone and I look forward to meeting you all very soon.
Re: How should a young entrepreneur dress to impress? Re: How should a young entrepreneur dress to impress? - Think of all the decisions you have to make at work. There are a bunch, right? Then there are the ones you have to make before you get to work -- you may not even have thought about those. One of those decisions might be whether you wear sleeves or go sleeveless at work. Do you think about that? I do. I thought most businesswomen did. (If I'm wrong about that, I would love to hear from you. Here’s a link to vote.) Here's why I'm thinking it's pretty important to know whether or not image-conscious women today go sleeveless at work: I recently spoke at a conference about success in business and what makes business people successful. I often incorporate the research that I read to support my ideas. I’m a student of persuasion, since that’s such a big part of sales, and I find that the same skills apply to successful people in business. Dr. Chris Segrin, of the University of Wisconsin, did some research on apparel. He found that in general "the more formal or high status the clothing, the greater the compliance rate obtained." What that means is that formal attire has more influence and power, less formal has less influence and power. That's what I told this audience of women. If they wanted to be perceived to have more power and influence, they might consider wearing long sleeves if they were meeting with superiors. That's more formal. Think about men in long-sleeved oxford shirts versus men in short-sleeved oxford shirts. Have you ever seen the president of the United States wearing a tie with a short-sleeved white shirt? Never. There's a perception that more skin showing (as in sleeveless) means less power. Less skin showing implies more power. People who are in a position of authority tend to comply with these rules of dress. I want to have every advantage in business. If I'm trying to persuade someone in business, I'm not showing up for the meeting in a sleeveless blouse. Would you?

You must delete the posts if you can, report them if you can't, and those with the power need to ban the member doing the spamming.[/quote:2b3c4rnk] Good job, Trent. Keep up the fight! Not dealing with spammers in the appropriate manner by banning them is not in the best interest of the forum. Those with the power to do so need to take action to protect the integrity of what this forum is all about.
