Want to be a millionaire?

I would be a millionaire if I had a dollar for every time a client told me this was their aim.

When I ask my clients what they want to achieve in life it is often to have more money, or to have more time in their day. Admirable goals, but not as easy as they look. They’re hard to achieve first off.

I encourage my clients to focus on the short term, to avoid the frustration of feeling they are going round in circles. Long-term goals can seem too far away.

I focus on their needs and values in life. I ask questions like, “Why do you want to work towards that goal?” “Are you confident you will reach it?” “Have you carefully planned the route to your proposed destination?”

Together, we lay the foundations. Then they can begin to build the steps towards their desired result. We look at outside factors that may influence their progress. I encourage them to look at their peers, or famous people, who have succeeded. Is there a role model here? What characteristics did they have to enable them to succeed?

The clients I deal with have goals which vary enormously. It may be to improve their business, to lose weight, to stop smoking, or to mend a relationship with a partner. Together we hone in on the small, day to day steps necessary to progress towards their stated aim.

Currently, I am working with a company here in Adelaide. I was approached by a manager who had a difficult staff member. The ultimate goal was to help the staff member perform better.

We put into place an action plan of short-term goals for the staff member. My client realised she needed to improve her relationship with this staff member, and to offer her more support.

To help improve her performance my client set up a staff appraisal system, made sure her colleague fully understood her job description, and what was expected of her, and checked back with her on a weekly basis.

Unfortunately the staff member did not change. My client felt frustrated, and then deficient when she concluded the staff member had to move on.

In the end it worked out that everyone was better off. The staff member had been unhappy, and is now more fulfilled elsewhere. The business has become more efficient. Ultimately, the outcome, though difficult, was a positive one.

Re: Entrepreneurship? Just do it Re: Entrepreneurship? Just do it - I totally agreed with you and let me site this example. The guys that started Youtube were working with paypal.com earning wages to keep them going. Today there are not a millionaire but a billionaire. If they are still at paypal they would still be earning enough to let them pay their bills
Re: What would you be willing to do for a million dollars? Re: What would you be willing to do for a million dollars? - I agree with both GT and Tanny that earning the money over a period of time in an ethical manner is important. To quote Jim Rohn he says it is not the money that is important when you become a millionaire but the person you become in the process. MichelleJ
Re: A litte help!! Re: A litte help!! - The best way to go about it is to give the first version free. When they get used to it to sell them the next version. This is what McCaffe did with his anti virus software. He gave the first version free and today he is a multi millionaire or even a billionaire today
Re: How do you create a million dollar idea? Re: How do you create a million dollar idea? - I've learned from a millionaire mentor "Lists of Ten" strategy. The idea is to create at least 10 items in the list on a daily basis. For instance, 10 ideas to create 1 million. Everday, there should be 10 DIFFERENT ideas. This means 300 ideas in one month. The trick to this strategy is to train the brain/mind to look for what you focus on! Have a better and better day!
Ideas For Business Ideas For Business - Hi, we are working on this co-op project where we need to create a small business and make some money, I was just wondering if you might have any ideas of what people need these days and any business ideas. Although remember we are just students and not some multi millionaire people so we need to start small. So what can we do that you think would be a good start up business?
