Winding down to quality time

Written by: Kool Results

Article Overview: When you look back on this year what do you see? I think we all agree that it has been tough economically. Politically, there has been a huge change in the USA, with the election of the first black President. Celebrities have waxed and waned – we’ve seen Madonna’s come back tour and her divorce from Guy Ritchie. What about in your life? I hope you can see progress and success in your business and personal life. But how do we measure success? Are we valuing what is really important?

Winding down to quality time

What is quality time? Is it a good night out with your mates? Is it surfing the waves at dawn or is it curling up with a good book?

We all value different things but it is important to make sure you are getting the work-life balance right and taking time out for yourself – whatever it is you choose to do.

At this time of year it is so easy to get caught up in all the commercialisation of Christmas and the rest of the festive season. Don’t be sucked in – particularly this year when many of us may be tightening our belts. You don’t have to spend big to get big rewards.

Make this Christmas time different. Don’t go over the top with your presents. Two well chosen ones mean so much more than five bought hastily at the last minute. Try to be more modest in what you eat. It’s not necessary to eat four times as much at Christmas – yet we all buy four times more than we would normally eat. You can still have a wonderful time without over-indulging.

Instead, it is probably more important to recognise the value of just being there with those you love and care about. If you are on your own, don’t feel you have to be at the biggest party or surrounded by fifty people to have fun. It may be better for your soul to take a walk along the beach or to go out for a long bike ride.

Often, it is one of these activities which can restore balance to a life spent the rest of the year lurching from crisis to crisis, or function to function. Slow down and have a good look at where you are at.

This year I shall be spending Christmas morning doing some voluntary work with a charity. I’ll be helping out at Hart Street for the Homeless by serving breakfast. I’ve still got time to be with my family for the rest of the day, but it is important for me to be able to help those less fortunate than myself.

Maybe the economic downturn has come at a time when we were all getting a bit too greedy. We’ve all been running on the treadmill of life just to keep up and maybe it’s time to get off for a while. We need to reassess our priorities and get back to basics.

Quality time for that homeless person will be having a good breakfast in good company. What will you do with your quality time?

Have a wonderful Christmas and peaceful New Year.

"Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves."
- Eric Sevar

Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? - [quote="christew":jd3bkcbd]There is more writers than writing jobs which creates a competitive market which keeps prices pretty low.[/quote:jd3bkcbd] Very true. Just go to any freelance site, and you'll find a ton of freelancers bidding on projects. Because it's so competitive, the price ends up being very low. Most of the time it's people from India that get the job because they're willing to do it for almost nothing. The question of quality comes into play at this point. If you can find a writer that's willing to write an article for you for say $1, what kind of quality do you think you will get? I personally wouldn't expect much, but then again you never know. There's no way I could afford to spend that much time on a project and get paid very little. I just can't compete with the competition, especially on GetAFreelancer. That's why forums are a major source of where my jobs come from. There are people that may be cheaper with the services I provide, but that's okay. I've proven that I can provide a very professional and quality service, and a lot of the time people are willing to pay more knowing they're going to get that quality of work.
Re: Blog entries... how many is too much? Re: Blog entries... how many is too much? - I guess it all depends on what the audience he already has wants and the plans he has for the future. I see what you’re saying about breaking it up over three blogs but I personally feel that keeping all in one place helps everyone. For instance when I start learning about a new subject I will still read articles that I know will go way over my head, simply because I can start piecing information together. You can switch that round for topics I feel I’m an expert in, I still read article on subjects I already know about, often it can be a great refresher or give you a new perspective of something you’ve known for a long time. So in that respect I’d be tempted to keep it all on one blog. With regards to doing three posts a day I think it’s a good idea but ONLY if all the posts are of the same quality. I think by tripling your work you may start rushing and providing less good quality articles and as the old adage goes its quality not quantity that will win out in the end. But if he can keep the same quality the more content the better as there are more posts that will rank in Google therefore potentially bringing in more visitors.

It was as if the writer simply Googled the subject and then tried to re-word existing content. The grammar in the articles was poor, while the content lacked flow and cohesion. But then again, $10 for 500 words is crap pay, so you get what you pay for.[/quote:3iyh4v03] Hi Kevin, Some people think $10 is a lot, while others are willing to pay it, or even more. But I agree, I'd charge more simply because it does take time to write, and it takes even more time if I'm not familiar with the topic and have to research it. You do get what you pay for, most of the time. I think it's also important to do some research on the freelancers you're considering in hiring. One of my proofreading clients, when she first contacted me about working for her, said that she had did her research on me and found that I would be a good partner. I was impressed because she took the time to figure out who I was and what I do. She viewed my bio in various websites and social sites. You almost have to do that nowadays if you want quality work. It takes time, but it will save you money and time in the long run.
Re: A Tip to Increase Traffic Re: A Tip to Increase Traffic - The first question that comes to my mind is... How quality is the traffic? You can get 1,000,000 visitors every day but if it isn't turning into money it doesn't do anything for you. I'm not saying LinkReferral doesn't bring in quality traffic. I am just asking because from my experience those "surfing" programs don't bring quality traffic.
Re: Search Engine Optimization Guide for All Re: Search Engine Optimization Guide for All - I agree with bizwebideas that it is QUALITY content that counts. What baffles me is the amount of time some people spend trying to get out of actually writing quality articles by using "article spinners" and all that junk. If you use your loaf, you can write a 450 word article much more quickly and of much better quality than it takes you to spin a horrible article that is of no use to man or beast. Anyway, thanks for the SEO and article posting tips, and excuse my rant!
