How to Have a 4 Day Work Week

Have you ever heard the saying 'work always expands to fill the time available? So what does that mean? It means that the longer you have to get something done, the longer you will take to do it.save time One of my clients recently committed to taking every Friday off. He blocked out the time in his diary and guess what? He gets the same amount of work done in the 4 days. Because we've been working together, his business is running much more effectively which has made it easy for Gary to step away.

I must admit that I used to always plan to have Fridays off myself and did for a long time. Then gradually I let other things get in the way and found myself working on my business on that day instead.

Lately I realised that I had better take my own advice and have reclaimed that day back and feel much better for it. Let's face it as a business owner there is always something to do.

Working harder is not the answer. We all need time off to unwind. As a business owner you need it more than anyone else.

So if you really want a 4 day work week here's what you do:

1. Decide which day you want off

2. Block that day out in your diary

3. Plan what you'll do on your day off (very important otherwise you may end up working because you don't know what to do with yourself)

4. Do it!

Re: When do entrepreneurs retire, if ever? Re: When do entrepreneurs retire, if ever? - Why would you ever retire when you love what you are doing? Sell the business and start another one maybe - but retire - NEVER! You should all read, The 4 Hour Work Week - By Timothy Ferris. He talks about building your business so that you can take mini 'retirement's throughout your life, instead of saving it all up for when you are old. Great concept - what do you think??
Re: How to Manage Your Emails Re: How to Manage Your Emails - GT has some great advice here and I have aspired to getting there, I am trying at the moment to unsubscribe from people who are constantly wanting to sell me things and to just keep the emails from those who actually give some good information amongst the sales pitches. It is hard to be ruthless, but if anyone has read "The Four Hour Work Week" the advice in there is to get rid of those mails, they distract you from your main task and are just time wasters. Re: Should bad tippers be exposed on Social Media? Re: Should bad tippers be exposed on Social Media? - Should bad tippers be exposed on Social Media? No they shouldn't. I guess the customer must have used a credit card, or possibly a cheque (do people still write cheques nowadays? I haven't written a cheque since 2001 - after 7/11 my UK bank refused to send me a chequebook because they were tightwads hiding behind "the threat of terrorism" but I have done just fine without one) or maybe even an IOU. This is an excellent argument in favour of paying in cash... and I had almost been persuaded by the 4-Hour Work-Week argument that you should pay for everything with a credit card that earned you air miles... In a world of angry cry-babies, CASH is still KING!!
Re: Blog Talk Radio Re: Blog Talk Radio - [quote="BuzzAroundBooks":8lxd7hlg] Hi Shri, As a suggestion, perhaps you could structure your radio show to cover 4 specific book genres every month by interviewing one author per week? For instance, Week 1 would always be business books, while Week 2 could be romance works, then Week 3 is mystery, etc. I think having a set routine will help to build loyal listeners over randomly having a new author from any genre each week.[/quote:8lxd7hlg] I could do that, but I'm using the show as another avenue to promote my clients and the topics they need to highlight are varied each month. Their books will dictate part of what I feature each month. There are other people that I will work in as time allows and they are chosen for a variety of reasons. So, the show is part of the overall promotional campaign that I'm creating for clients. Shri
