Create your vision

So often we are so busy with today that we forget about the future. Don't forget to give yourself time to think about where you want your business to be 3-5 years down the track. Build a great vision of what YOU really want. Let's face it - if we don't know where we are going, then how can we plan to get there? Time involved in planning is time well spent and if done properly will go a long way towards ensuring success. Be creative in the visioning process. When your mind knows where it is going, then you can develop steps to get there. Just remember if you don't know where your life is going, how can you live it?

To obtain information to build your vision, research other businesses and read business articles. Visit other businesses that you find appealing and talk to the owners or staff if possible.

Now take a moment just for yourself. Close your eyes and have a think about the following:

• How do you want your life to be?
• What business are you in?
• Will you be working in the business, or will you have passive income?
• Who are the customers?
• How many people are employed?
• How do you go about getting customers?
• What makes your business unique?

Visions are not made immediately. Take time out each day to picture your vision and confirm that this is what you really want. The clearer your picture the more it will motivate you. Ask yourself is this really the life that you want to live, is it challenging enough, is this what makes you happy, is it in accordance with your values?
Your vision will give you energy and motivate you to build the business of your dreams. You owe it to yourself to dream big. Decide where you are going and then don't let anyone take it away. Develop friendships with others with positive visions and picture your vision each day to make it real.

It is from this vision that we can then decide where we want to be in one year's time and then what we need to be doing now.

Re: 4 Ways to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur Re: 4 Ways to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur - The situation that Wezi describes is more the norm than the exception. I have spoken to many "entrepreneurs-to-be" that have a desire to work for themselves but can't overcome the fear of making that critical leap. The truth of the matter is, if fear is preventing you from moving forward with your own business you need to overcome that fear first. To do this, try this exercise: 1. Write down as many detailed reasons why you are DISSATISFIED with remaining in your job until you retire. E.g., it won't let you achieve the lifestyle you desire; you are sick of commuting an hour each day; etc. 2. Write down in as much detail as possible your VISION of what your life will be like once you have your own business and you are fully engaged in it. Enjoy this step. 3. Create a list of the action steps you need to actually complete to get things rolling. What do you need to do first? Second? Third? Create a step by step plan. These three steps all work together to overcome any resistance you may feel towards making a major change in your career. If after these exercises, you are still too afraid, look at what you have written down. Chances are one of the three forces for change (dissatisfaction, vision, or first steps) are not yet strong enough to overcome your fear. Perhaps, once you really thought about it, things aren't really that bad in your current career, etc.... Hope this helps.
Re: What I Enjoyed Reading This Week - Oct 14 Re: What I Enjoyed Reading This Week - Oct 14 - I really enjoyed the Improve your vision with an app article in the New Scientist. I don't wear glasses and think a lot of people cripple their vision by wearing specs from an early age instead of exercising their eyes... Nice to see someone has developed an ap that will help.
Depends on the conditions Depends on the conditions - If for example I give up ownership, but the owners commit to pursuing my vision with my product, then I will certainly considering giving up ownership. Contingent on my being able to buy back ownership in the event of incompetence or if the new owners fail to follow through with my vision.

Re: Getting Press Coverage Re: Getting Press Coverage - Thanks for those extra tips again Evan. Also don't forget the 'purple cow' theory. Create something truly awesome and unique and people will pay attention, including journalists. I have some off the wall stuff planned for 2010.
