Isn’t it great that your business is growing?

Starting a business is an exciting time and when your sales are increasing it is an excellent feeling. All of a sudden you are feeling very busy as you are performing the many tasks that have to be done in your business. You need to perform the operations that makes your business successful, but there is also the administration, the accounts, the marketing, the purchasing, etc. When do you do all this - outside normal business hours?

It may be time to start thinking about hiring someone to help you. There are alternatives to a full time employee that you can think about. You could employ a casual or part-time staff member, sub-contract to another business or outsource the work. You may even think about hiring a trainee, apprentice or intern. It is an excellent feeling when other people can help you earn your income and learn your way of doing business.

The best time to think about employing someone is before you really need it - because when things get really busy you may not have the time to find someone. It is the system (or the process) that will make you successful. Take the time now to think about the work that you do for your business. What don't you like doing or what don't you have the skills to do? Write it down on a piece of paper. Maybe it is some of the following:

• answering the phone
• giving quotes
• responding to emails
• preparing newsletters
• administration
• bookkeeping
• your contact management system
• word processing

As you list these tasks they will form the basis of a Job Description for either someone you employ, sub-contract or outsource to. Contact us for advice and tips on employing, sub-contracting and outsourcing.

Re: Don't read this unless... you want to help me! Re: Don't read this unless... you want to help me! - Hi Jamie. I am a business coach as well and I think I can offer some insight. I think there is a wide spectrum of things people are being challenged with. Some of the common ones are Twitter Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Copy writing and personal branding. If you want to build your business you will need to Invest in yourself by reading books, attending courses/seminars. With the type of business you are in you are going to want to make yourself valuable to a wide variety of people with a wide variety of problems. I make an excellent living what I am doing but I never stop growing myself as a person and an entrepreneur so keep growing yourself, and over time your business will grow with you.
Re: How To Drive Traffic To Your Site Through Our Forums Re: How To Drive Traffic To Your Site Through Our Forums - This is great information. But do you think this is something someone should get involved with when first getting started. I do like to participate in some forums but I also see it as taking away from concentrating on other aspects of growing my business. Don't get me wrong I will definitely put this into play, its just I wanted to express my opinion.
Solopreneurs Solopreneurs - Hi terriz, This is the main challenge - how to identify topics that are specific to solopreneurs that doesn't overlap with other areas as you mentioned - starting a business, marketing, growing, etc. Many of the companies (non-solo) that I speak with or people who are wanting to build companies have issues about self-financing, developing a personal brand, and growing without having to hire more staff. Perhaps you could put a topic or two in the Other Entrepreneur Topics and we can see the response!
Recently quit my job, new business owner Recently quit my job, new business owner - Hello everyone- I went to college for the last 4 years down at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I got a job working for a developer right out the door starting at $65k/year + benefits, etc. I thought it was great. While in college, I started an online business. It took a few years, but eventually started producing a decent amount of cash-flow. I wanted to run my online business full-time instead of working, but it wasn't making enough money. I started my job on Sep 2. My goal was to continue growing my online business at nights and weekends until I was making more through my business than I was at work. After a few weeks, I realized that it just wasn't going to happen. I was so burnt out from work all day, I could barely get any work done on my own business. During the weekends, I would want to do something fun because I was so bored all week at work. After a few weeks, I realized that it was one or the other. I noticed that there was a ton more potential (more than some silly 5% raise and occasional promotion) in my own business than there was in my job. I decided to quit my job and go full time on my business. I knew this was risky, but I also knew I should be accepting the risk while I am still young. It has been about 6.5 weeks and I am really happy I made the decision. My business has been growing very rapidly and I am much happier in general now. Still not making that 65k/year yet, but I have a feeling I will be in no time!
Re: Prospects in animation business in coming years. Re: Prospects in animation business in coming years. - Yes the Animation Industry is growing and it needs cost effectiveness, more employees producing quality work. Whether you make a 2d or a 3d animation it requires lots of money, concentration, patience and it sometimes become painful too. Half of the job is done once you have developed the storyboarding. As video advertising is growing, it would adversely affect the television advertising. Recent trends have shown that advertising budgets for online advertising is rapidly growing against television advertising all over across the world. Gaming industry is on its peak these days and animation is in huge demand.
