Ever experienced a downward spiral? You know - one of those days or weeks or months when absolutely nothing went your way? A time when the odds stacked against you? When everything you touched fell apart? When you wondered if you would ever be able to prove yourself to the people with the power to propel you?

Be rest assured: everybody gets that downtrodden feeling. Everybody, no matter who they are, gets sucked into one of those black holes of desperation and despair now and again. And perversely, even when we’re at our lowest ebb, circumstances can continue to relentlessly contrive against us and we wonder just how much of a battering we can take, and how much deeper we need to dig.



So how do you put a spoke in that spiral? How do you revive a defeated confidence and an embattled self-esteem?



Well you can start by battening down the hatches. Put things on hold for a moment. Take a step back. Then do something practical and positive and achievable. Something that you know you can do well: something small but worthwhile. And then do another and another until you feel good about yourself again.



Plug the hole.

More Difficult Sign Up Process to Stop Spammers... - This post is more for Evan but all Mods are welcome to chime in with your opinions. I have suggested this to the owners on some of the other forums I moderate and it has drastically reduced spam. Doing these things will almost entirely eliminate spam bots and will also cut down on real people who come here to spam because they don't want to jump through all the hoops. I don't know what you have in place right now since it has been so long since I joined but here are some things that a lot of forums are doing and it works well... 1) Captcha during registration. 2) Random security question during registration. 3) Must confirm email address to activate account before you can post. 4) New members can't add signature links and/or links in posts until after they have certain number of posts. Let's get rid of these A-Holes!!!
Three days later - Well, it's been only 3 days since that horrible last month of summer vacation ended, and in these 3 days my hits are back up to what they were before Black August came along. So I'm thinking that, indeed, it wasn't my new navigation bar, but simply that people were out rushing around trying to jam in activities before school started again, and now that things are back to normal in their lives... they will return to normal on my site! My site numbers had been holding steady for about 3 months, before Black August...I had hoped that the classy-looking new nav bar would actually help increase my numbers, as I think it adds a professional gloss to the whole website that was lacking before...but so far I'm just still ....steady... with those previous 3 months, not really increasing.
Re: Anyone used/using Forum Auto Submit software? - Hi GT, I wouldn't dream of using anything like this either. Your concern is indeed valid, from what I understand this kind of software is 'Black Hat' and can only get anyone using it in trouble for spamming and as you say damage their reputation. I'd advise anyone even considering using anything like this not to do it..it's simply not worth it. Take care, Carol
Re: Bad SEO techniques? - I aggre if all that you tell is called SPAM or Black Hat SEO... i thinks this ways not give you experience to do SEO better for increase traffic you're website ... better you must do SEO (on page and off page) with manually, because it's was very helped to increase traffic and PR in search engine ... Re: What I'm reading this weekend - Oct 8, 2010 - these are great! In particular, I liked "you’re already perfect" and "Smashing through the Black Wall of Fear." That's exciting that there is a new 4-hour book out. I really enjoyed "The 4 hour Workweek."
