5 Deadly Mistakes Network Marketers Make
Among the many professional "hats" I wear, is that of network marketer. It has the opportunity to offer tremendous financial rewards for those willing to do what it takes and who enjoy being of service to others. Regardless of what some nay-sayers may think, there is nothing dishonorable about sharing products and services that you feel passionate about with others because you know it will help them. That you also make money for doing so is the cream on top. The "cherry" that completes this delicious opportunity cake is the fact that it's another work from home business option that allows you to be your own Boss and work your own hours. How little or how much income you make is determined by you.
Network marketing, however, seems to provide different results for different people and some aren't making the living from it that they can and should be. I have coached many network marketers and discovered the five major mistakes they make that hold them back, and those five mistakes are:
1. Not thinking of themselves as real businesses and real business owners. Many don't even have the business basics, fax machine, dedicated phone line, business name, letterhead, brochures, ways to invoice, merchant status to accept credit cards, etc. How can you expect people to do business with you when you aren't even really in business? You have no credibility and this just looks like a nice part time hobby you are doing and people perceive you as being gone in a flash and don't take you seriously. You aren't presenting a business 'face' that instills trust and reliability.
2. Don't really know their products/services. People prefer to buy from credible experts, not people who say "I don't know" or "I'm not sure". Potential customers are put off and so are your business partners who are looking up to you. If you can't fully explain all the features/benefits and answer customer and partner questions, then you won't succeed. If people always have to be 3-wayed or have to speak with someone else in the company, you are not viewed as serious in your business and have lost all believability.
3. Failure to Connect With People. This is often due to a fear of selling and visions of pushy salesmen in mind. They are afraid of scaring their friends and family away, so they don't serve people because they don't want to offend them! Can you imagine going into a shop to buy bread. You're there, you're willing to buy bread, but the sales assistant hides because she's scared if she serves you, you'll think she's pushy and stay away from her for good! The reality is not only could she have met your needs and sold you the bread, she could have sold you the butter that goes with it, too... in a serving, non-pushy way. You can't be afraid of connecting with people if you want to succeed.
4. Fear of Sales and Marketing. Many network marketers avoid terms like "sell", "sales", "marketing". They have negative feelings or stories or beliefs about the words and some even have negative attachment to the actual term "network marketing". If you are concerned about how others perceive network marketing and what you are doing, you will get in your own way with your negative self-talk. You might even keep your network marketing a secret so people won't laugh at you. This lack of belief will cause you lack of success and income.
5. Self-Doubt. Perhaps you have read others' stories or talked to or met others in your company who are highly successful. Meanwhile, you notice others who are not there yet or not making it at all. You hear them talking, notice their lack of success and you might even get sucked into their "club". These people are toxic and build up your self-doubt. You start to think selling the products/services is tough and getting folks interested in being a partner is even tougher. So you need to ask yourself, why are you really in network marketing? What do you really, really want? A car? A boat? More time with your family? Financial Security? Have you envisioned it? Can you taste it? Do you feeeeeeeel it coming to you and believe it will? To make it in network marketing you need to amp up your vision. This will allow you to take inspired actions to create what you really want.
It really is as simple as Dream... Believe.... Achieve!
