About Those Good Dishes
|
| Guest post by: Terri Levine |
Article Overview: A good friend of mine and brilliant coach and author, Jim Donovan, once wrote an excellent article on using your good dishes... it reminded me that I hadn't read these words of wisdom for quite a while and maybe now more than ever, we need to remind ourselves that we should "use our good dishes".

About Those Good Dishes
What are our "good dishes"? Anything special in our lives that we are holding aside for a special occasion or a rainy day. Much like the expensive dish sets we buy and set aside for special occasions. If those dishes are lucky, they might see the light of day once a year or once every 10 years... some never see the light of day.
We do this with anything special and expensive we buy.
Now suppose you should die tomorrow. What good did those special dishes do for you? You spent the money and never got to enjoy them. Is that what life is all about? Investing in things that can give us pleasure but not allowing ourselves that pleasure? Isn't that a waste of money?
Look at your life. What good dishes are you saving? Special lingerie? A new outfit? Shoes? Handbag? Perfume? Nightgown? Cutlery? Wine glasses? Aged whiskey?
I'm not saying you have to use them every day, but find time in your life to use all the special things you buy because there is no time like the present, especially considering you don't know if you'll be here tomorrow.
If you buy items like "good dishes", don't waste them by placing them in dark cupboards waiting for a special occasion. If you are still alive, the occasion is special. Use them now. Life should be lived and enjoyed now. You can't put it on a shelf for later... you aren't guaranteed a "later".
Good dishes aren't just symbolic of physical purchases... it can be anything you are putting off waiting for a special occasion. You don't want to reach old age looking back with regrets, yet ultimately that is what most of us do.
Want to learn singing? Go take lessons now. Want to learn to dance? Start now. Want to buy a motorbike and take a long tour? Do it. Bought fancy new dishes? Use them every Sunday! Grab life by the horns and enjoy every second of it while you can.
Anything that falls in the "good dish" category is no good to you once you're dead... and you can't take it with you. You only have now. Spend your "now" wisely.
