Good Day? Bad Day?
Have you ever heard people say that their day is a bad day? Someone has been on their nerves, pushing all their buttons.
What that says to me is that they have chosen to have a bad "attitude" about that day. Sure, people can get on your nerves and push all your buttons, but it is you who decides how to react. You determine if you will allow people or events to cause you to feel good or bad and you choose to feeeel what you desire.
Instead of allowing people and circumstances to be the cause of your not quite right attitude, you can decide to allow only good feelings in. It takes practice but for your wellbeing it is highly worth it. Let the "bad" be like water off a duck's back to you. Simply decide that there is no room in your head or heart for the "bad". In life's more crucial moments, we are always able to put things into perspective... you need to be able to do that every day without the aid of a crucial moment!
Since we don't know our DOD (date of death), we need to live each moment of our lives fully. We get to choose if we want to feeeeel good or bad. Given the choice, there is no way I would want to feel anything but happy. Life is too short and before you know it you are older and the years that have gone by are just memories and if they are not all good or mostly good memories, there is nothing you can do about it now. You should have thought about it "then". This is your wake up call. This is your "then".
If your self-talk is negative and you are speaking inside to yourself or aloud about things not working or not going right, you'll feel that more and get that more.
Coaching Tip: Change your self-talk to be about what IS going right and what is working, no matter how small it seems. Only engage in positive, energetic conversations. If you don't program your own self-talk, your brain will be filled with negative talk, since that is how we are hard-wired as human beings.
Coaching Tip: Each day wake up and think about what IS going right and what IS working. This begins to program your mind for success. Do this "what is right" check up at least 4 - 6 times a day. When you get engaged in something that is not positive and you find you aren't feeling good or are surrounded with people who are toxic and negative, your energy changes and you feel negative, too.
Coaching Tip: When you are feeling down or with people or circumstances that feel negative, you need to put yourself first. Remember, your DOD could be in the next 5 minutes... how do you intend to experience your life? How do YOU want to feel? Then choose the feeling you want.
If you find this too difficult, try saying to yourself, "Well, at least...." And fill that with something that has or is going right for you. Here's an example. You're home washing your hair and the hot water goes off. You can choose to be miserable because now you have to rinse your hair standing under cold water, or you can say..."Well, at least the water supply itself is still working and I can rinse my hair!" Imagine if the entire water supply had shut off! Things can always be worse... so always be grateful and use the "At least..." to help you put a positive spin on an otherwise less than positive experience.
When you remember that you have a choice and your DOD could be in the next moment, I think you will value feeeeling joy and choosing happiness more!
